What a great name for a Rye Whiskey! Catcher in the Rye is one of my favourite books and the subtle hints all over the label to the book is impressive. - The nose is bright with sweetness and hints of green, almost dill in tone. - On the palate it hints you with the traditional rye whiskey spice, given its 100% rye. - It then balances out that sharp spice with a beautiful honey sweetness. Additional notes from the distillery: - (March 2020) Now aged for 5 years in 53 gallon New American Oak Barrels, up from 2 years of original release.
About this bottle
Founded in 2013, Two James Spirits is the first distillery to open in Detroit since the end of Prohibition. Founders David Landrum and Peter Bailey named the distillery after their fathers, both named "James." Their Catcher's Rye Whiskey is made from 100% Michigan-grown rye and water from the Great Lakes, for a distinct flavor and homage to the state's terroir. It is then aged a minimum of two years in new, charred American oak barrels before being bottled at 49.4% ABV.

this is really nice grain to glass 100% rye. I’ve been wanting to try this for years, and it was well worth the wait. I wish distiller would update their rating as no doubt this stuff is well over 3 years aged now, and tastes like it. it’s smooth but spicy with notes of chocolate, mint and cherry. long finish … one of the best ryes I’ve had in a while.
Phenomenal woody oak on the nose. It’s almost like you’re in a wood shop. Definitely wood heavy on the palate. There’s an odd metallic flavor that really throws this off. No layering to the flavor; very one dimensional.
Nose is a bit sweet, seems floral. Nice heat on initial sip, def get the floral after taste. New to the Ryes but this one doesn’t compete with what I have tasted prior.
Nice spice and fruit note. Leaves a lasting finish. For such a young eye, is nicely rounded.
Nose: Honey, Brown Sugar, Nutmeg Taste: Carmel Apple, Brown Sugar, Vanilla, Cinnamon?
