Gin is such an interesting spirit in that it can truly capture the essence of a geographical location by harnessing it's local botanicals. I've been looking forward to this one for a while as it uses many local herbs/plants that are unique to the Canadian north. Nose: Juniper, pine, and a hint of lemon. Brings back memories of walking through the woods on fishing trips in Quebec. Palate: Sweet and syrupy, and strong lemon meringue pie flavour. Good but not as herbaceous as I would expect from all of the botanicals used. Finish: Short/medium but with a medly of flavours that I have a hard time identifying other than Labrador tea which is pretty distinct once you've tried it. I think they could have cranked the lemon down a touch, but it is really delicious. On ice it's even better. I like it because it isn't trying to be a London Dry and instead something uniquely Canadian/Boreal.

L: Clear bright yellow, lots of medium legs that are medium paced from a fine crest. N: Celery, mint, Labrador tea, peppery, piney, vibrant juniper, fruity ethanol, fragrant wildflowers & roses notes, currant, dried lemon peel, vegetal tone. M: Light sweetness, medium burn, medium body, candied lemon, mint, celery, fresh juniper berries. F: Medium finish lingering on fresh floral & vegetal notes.
Aroma is medicinal and herbal, wildflowers, with strong juniper and spruce. Tastes of mint, lemon, pine, juniper, fennel seed. Some sweetness - vanilla, honey. Feels a touch oily, and has pretty solid kick and burn to it. Clearly you can see this is a strongly flavoured gin, with a wide variety of notes keeping it interesting. Because of this it has the backbone for a good G&T.
Smooth (very slightly oily), bright and fresh. Well balanced juniper, deep floral rose, tea and citrus. As vibrant in flavour as it's golden yellow colour, with enough depth to make it easy to drink on it's own. Similar to Bulldog but heavier on the rose. Adds rose petal softness when mixed. Makes an excellent G&T. $35 in Ontario.
A dry, fruit-forward gin which emphasizes the berries of the Canadian tundra. Great neat, but a little more interesting on ice. Highly recommended for any Gin enthusiast looking for a fruit-forward Gin!
I really enjoy this one though the floral flavours may not be for everyone. This is a fun one to drink and it doesn't take a double-shot to enjoy the depth of flavour. Highly recommending it!
