I pick up pine needles, echinacea, anise, (very) dark chocolate, bitter espresso, and a deep, almost forbidden sweetness, maybe of (burnt) orange peel. It starts very strong and overly pungent, but when you keep drinking, your palette will adapt to the strength and the flavors will start to unravel. Overall, its quite bitter and not for the faint of heart. But given a chance, it has a lot to offer.
About this bottle
This herbal liqueur is based on a recipe originally created by József Zwack, the Royal Physician to the Habsburg Court for Emperor Joseph II in 1790. It has been commercialized by J. Zwack & Co. since the 1840s and after several stops and starts over the years, is now produced by the descendants of the Zwack family. It is a blend of more than 40 herbs and spices—some added during distillation, some macerated—and aged in oak for 6 months. Caramel color is added before bottling at 40% ABV.

Nose is very simalar to Jägermeister, the simalarity is there on the taste too but less sweet and much more bitter. The bitterness reminds me of Gammeldansk or maybe Fernet Branca without the mint. It cloys at the back of your mouth and lingers there for a long time. There's also some sweeter orange peel notes in there.
Molto amaro, molto erbaceo. Aiuta la digestione. Non sono amante degli amari, ma questo lo bevo volentieri se capita l’occasione.
Smells almost like Jaegermeister with different herbs. More spicy but with a bitter aftertaste.
Five more percentage points of alcohol would have made the difference
Bitter taste, similar to Amaro but without the minty sweet taste.
