The first of anything I've tried from Union Horse. Very impressed with this. Rich, bold, full and a very complex aroma that just covers a very curious funky fruit note from the yeast. Sweet, vanilla, and smokey. Much better than I expected. It is a 100% rye, aged in full size barrels.
About this bottle
This sour mash rye is fermented over the course of five to seven days and distilled in their 500-gallon copper still (affectionately named Chester Copperpot). All of the grain for this 100% rye is local and milled at the distilling for more control over the end product which is aged up to 5 years in new American oak.

Maybe should give 4 stars. Had at Martin City Brewery. Complex but balanced. Had after some spicy Christmas nutmeg beers so could not balance out the heavy spice for this one. But a lot of flavor, and some leather notes under the fruit. Should try again in a quieter space.
vanilla and cinnamon on the nose with hints of allspice and alcohol. Very vegetable and green pepper on the palate and some hint of allapice. there's a slight almost burnt flavor as well. very chewy. subtly hot.
A very nice and balanced rye. Lots of rye spice on the palate. A fun, nice vanilla on the nose and a nice warmth but not overly powerful on the finish
A sweet rye note on the nose. Caramel and rye greet the palate. This is spicy right from the opening. The finish is medium with a creamy caramel.
Nose: sugar, vanilla, corn, apple Palate: candy, sweet corn, vanilla, oak Finish: short and sweet, smidge of vanilla
