The rating has nothing to do with the packaging. The packaging is clearly 5 out of 5. Its visually appealing, as is the whiskey inside with a nice red color to it. The whiskey itself, incredibly average. Not much flavor outside of the currant. Theres a slight bite to it, even for the proof. Im sure the blend is young. Still, I appreciate that it still tastes like a whiskey. The fruit isnt overpowering like other whiskeys that are conparable. The problem is still that it lacks anything outside of that. Its thin. Leaves no finish. Theres somr seeetness, some tartness. The berry note is noticable but as mentioned, isnt overpowering. Its nothing i would buy again. Perhaps as a gift. But for the price, theres better fruit forward options. Cool bottle though.

Nose: black cherry, plum, chocolate, graham cracker, cinnamon, baking spice Taste: reflects the nose. The black currant infusion hits strong up front and the typical bourbon notes come through on the finish. This is not just a cheap tasting flavored whiskey. It has a solid bourbon base thats been infused well. Plus extra points for the best bottle design ever. Its worth trying if you're a bourbon fan, especially if you like dark fruit notes

This is an black current Infused whiskey with great notes and taste. It's great chilled straight or goes with so many mixers. The bottle is a very cool design and come with a cool Gargoyle pour spout, yep it comes out of the gargoyles mouth! It has a face cover when not in use and or has a removable stopper inside the bottle you can leave on or remove. I've removed the labels of the dead bottles and fill with my other go to's! Love it!

Sweet off the bat, vanilla, some faint oakiness but its most apparent note is a dark berry. black currant/ black berry notes shine through near the finish. Its a pretty smooth sipper for 90 proof, and as much as i stay away from flavored whiskey, this stuff aint too bad.

This is a party whiskey! Not a very grown-up taste, velvelty and sweet with strong berry notes. Super easy to drink in high volume and great around a campfire. The grotesque pourer makes it easy to just pour straight into mouths while yelling, "Gargle the GOYLE!"

Von Payne Black is a truly exceptional whiskey that appeals both to whiskey connoisseurs and casual drinkers. It is a perfect combination of a little bit sweet and a little tart, and it's super smooth. Gorgeous presentation, too!
