About this bottle

Weller Antique 107 is a no-age statement release aged for 6-8 years (it has had an age statement of 7 years in the past) and is bottled at 107 proof. This is a wheated bourbon distilled at Buffalo Trace Distillery. The higher proof holds up nicely to both cocktails or rocks while still maintaining its distinct wheated properties.

Bourbonk 4.3

I first had, and reviewed, Weller Antique 107 back in November of 2022. My palate has obviously come a long way since then, because this stuff is excellent. In my original review I stated, among other things, that I prefer the green label Special Reserve, and that, "I probably won't buy this one again.". I also just gave it 3.75 stars. Well... as of last night, this is all changing. I'm deleting my original review, and submitting a new updated one: Color: Medium copper Nose: Wow! Caramel, toasty oak, molasses (or is it maple?), cinnamon. Palate: Generally sweet; burnt cherries; mild chest hug on the second sip; something akin to "graham cracker" appears on the back of the tongue. This might sound funny and a bit hokey, but... this is the kind of bourbon that brings to mind, "Thanksgiving" — all kinds of aromatic spices, burning wood, and sweet desserts all heaped together in a glass! Finish: I guess it's medium finish with lots of lingering sweetness and cinnamon from the palate. Not quite "drying", but slightly so. Ok... this Antique 107 just knocked the 12 Year off the Weller Gold Medal podium. I need to make this bottle last, as I don't know when I will come across it again at SRP.

Hmm...in contrast to my previous review, I actually loved this bourbon this time. THe more I tasted it, the more it grew on me. Perhaps it needs to be sampled in isolation. It has simple aromas of vanilla, cola, and maple syrup, but it has a taste of cherries and smoke and a the bitterness of citrus pith that quickly flashes into a serrano-spicy kick that echoes...and echoes...and echoes, almost rye-like. At first sip, it's a little aggressive, but each successive sip is more and more inviting, like easing in to a sauna. I've gotta recommend it, much more highly than I did at first tasting.

AnttiRG 3.5

A rich, Kentucky Straight Wheated Bourbon Whiskey by the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky aged for 6-8 years in new American Oak barrels before being bottled at 107 proof. It has an aromatic birth with notes of grain, stone fruits, flowers, wood & spices; while a rich & bold life adds notes of English toffee, honeyed apricots, pecan praline & dark chocolate; that leads to a long & balanced death with notes of oak, vanilla, cinnamon & leather. Whoa! Unlike most bourbons I’ve tried, which start mild and finish with a throb of spice, this one is super spicy upfront. It tastes strongly of cinnamon and citrus, with a full body and sweet vanilla finish. It has a beautiful smell of maple and perhaps a bit of cocoa. Perhaps I’m a pleb, but I actually prefer the OG Weller for its simplicity and lack of initial kick.

Nose: slighty sweet, grain forward with a little heat and spice Palate: semi sweet hints of vanilla and caramel, slight spice or boldness to it, maybe its cinnamon with a little drying tannic finish. Enjoyable pour just hard to get. I got it at MSRP but not sure id pay the $120 tag at liquor stores. Id pay the $66 total wine price all day for it

Nose: dark fruit, cherry/strawberry, vanilla Pallet: dark fruit carries over, smooth and creamy, strawberry werthers Outstanding pour! Nose to pallet transition is smooth and fruit carries over. Tastes like strawberry and vanilla candy. Would prefer over Weller 12 and Full Proof. Would be a 5 but theres other 5s under the Sazerac umbrella.
