Nose of smoke, charcoal, ash, rye, band-aids, juniper and grilled pineapple. On the palate it’s sweet and smoky, with flavors of rye, smoked pork, wood smoke, charred wood, juniper berries and a touch of vanilla. The finish is smoked evergreen. The smoke is just about right; it’s obvious without overpowering. Odd in ways as well. For starters, I wouldn’t look askance at someone if they were to taste this and think it a smoke aged gin as opposed to a whiskey. Also, I think it’s odd that they don’t tell us what we have on the bottle. According to mine, this is simply whiskey aged in traeger wood fired barrels. There is no mention of grain (fair enough), but surprisingly there’s no info on the wood. I could be wrong, but I read this to mean that they wood fired a barrel of some sort of wood using some sort of traeger pellets. So there are potentially two types of wood at work. I suppose it’s just academic, but I’m curious. And since this is essentially a marketing gimmick, I would think they would share more info. Oh well, smoked booze being hit or miss, this is generally pretty enjoyable, though not great. @twostal

A little disappointed. Vanilla, caramels and honey on the front with some very mild oak and hay, applewood and mild tinges of smoke. The finish is short to medium length full of honey, smoke and sweet apple wood. For the price im not thoroughly impressed. Its pretty light and mild on the smoke. This is not a rye either which is very obvious from the flavor. A bit lack luster imo for the price but a reallt easy drinking whiskey from my POV. Unique but not unique enough.
I was about to start smoking pork butt so naturally when i saw this bottle it was impossible to resist. Subdued nose eventually gave a hint of bbq rub and charcoal. Palate was smoky with an herbal honey brininess that reminded me of Carolina bbq. Since i like scotch, i like the smokiness. Not what i’d call robust but not bad for a gimmick release and when i eventually eat dinner i imagine this will pair well with pulled pork.
I just tried this again. Its so fucking bad. Like really really bad. theres almost no reedeeming factors deapite looking for them. Idk if this got worse over time or if my sense of taste was vacant for that tasting. Almost laughable that whistlepig tasted this and thought it was okay. Its really hard to get me to rag on a whiskey but whistlepig needs to get a fucking grip cause im so confused by this liquid. Steer clear
It’s bad. Like someone dropped liquid smoke into a very very young whiskey (rye? It doesn’t even specify what it is.) Nose is very one note - campfire - but not like a good peaty scotch. Palate reminds me of what I’d expect artificial bacon-flavored dog treats might taste like. Finish is extremely dry. Just a really bad whiskey, and for the price, I’m embarrassed to have it on the bar.
Nosing it worried me. All I got was raw rubbing alcohol. I like it. I hate it. It's definitely a whiskey you want to chew...in a good way. A review nailed it... Smoked BBQ Brisket. The finish lingers which I like 👍 It doesn't mix well.
