About this bottle

The ninth edition in The Boss Hog series was crafted by WhistlePig's Head Blender Meghan Ireland and Head of Whisky Development Liz Rhoades who were inspired by the Nine Muses of Greek mythology. Each limited edition straight rye whiskey bottling is aged in American oak and then finished in two types of seasoned casks — Greek fig nectar and farm-scratch Tentura, a Greek liqueur. Notably, both finishes were made by the Vermont distillery team using Greek and local ingredients. These are single barrel expressions bottled at cask proof so the proof ranges from 102.5-106.2 (51.3-53.1% ABV). The nine Greek sirens and their respective art adorn this year's bespoke pewter toppers. Collectors should try to find Melpomene, the Muse of Tragedy as this is the most limited topper available. Available as of October 2022. (SRP $599.99)

Great pour. It’s like putting together the fig and honey syrup we love on Greek yogurt for dessert in Greek restaurants coupled with chocolate, cherries, berries, herbs, flowers, and spices. Nose: Cinnamon, Toffee, Apple Pie, Figs, Lavender, Honey, Maple Syrup, Licorice, Nutmeg, Luxardo Cherries, Molasses, Caramel, Thyme, Blue Cheese Palate: Raisins, Raspberries, Cloves, Honey, Fig Syrup, Walnuts, Hazlenuts, Dark Chocolate, Strawberries, Peaches, Toasted Marshmallows, Chamomile, Lavender Finish: Cinnamon, Mocha, Raspberries, Honey, Walnuts, Spearmint, Milk Chocolate, Nutmeg, Anise, Cloves

Incredible. Super complex and a wide variety of flavors. This may be my favorite Rye because of how unique this was. The tentura barrels definitely gave it plenty of different fruits. The nose was so vibrant, you'd think they couldn't pack any more flavors into the palate. Yet, the palate had so many hints of dried fruit and clove. Lots of cinnamon and fig like a fig newton flavored whiskey. The finish was so big and kept coming in the form of caramel and fruit. Well worth the price in my opinion!

Indian pudding, christmas tree, gingerbread cookies, eggnog, tons of clove, nutmeg and licorice. To me, this is a rich, sweet Christmassy drink that lingers on the tongue. It has a LOT going on and I couldn't drink every day but is amazing as something very different for a special ocassion.

Overwhelming clove and nutmeg. Cinnamon. Aged rye. Anise. Tastes like Christmas, but unfortunately I drank it in May. Save this one for the winter holidays.

Figs come through strong on the nose. Palate of spices and dried fruit, particularly nutmeg, which lingers through a delicious finish.

Vanilla, caramel, oak, and cherries. Weird earthiness, probably from the fig nectar barrel
