2nd pour from a fresh crack which is making the nose tight and probably requiring the pour to need a longer rest time to get the full nose. Both the nose and pallet come off spicy, more like a chili pepper than baking spice. It is dry from the tannins and not very sweet. I get some chocolate on the finish but it is a unique dram and worth the price for a single experience but I wouldn't buy a bottle at its steep SRP.
About this bottle
WhistlePig’s 12th edition in The Boss Hog series draws inspiration from two ancient Aztec beverages: pulque, an earthy, agave-based ferment, and xocolatl, a bitter and spicy cocoa drink. The team took straight rye whiskey that had aged in new American oak barrels and placed them into barrels that they had seasoned with pulque curado made from agave, cacao, and Mexican chiltepín, guajillo, and pasilla peppers. Released as single barrel expressions, the proof will vary from 104.8-108.4 proof (52.4 - 54.2% ABV). Available in select markets beginning October 2025. (SRP $599.99)

I am a big fan of the Boss Hog series. Enjoying the newest to the collection, warm and spicy which is perfect for a fall day. Toastey oak, red hots, slight vanilla with a touch of sweetness. Yes please!
Sweet but spicy. The cacoa and spicy blend is very pleasant. Little pepper in the finish has you going back for another sip to recapture the sweety entry. Absolutely delightful!
