About this bottle

Toasted Oak Four Grain is a limited edition release in Woodford Reserve's Distillery Series. It was made using a blend of Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Rye, Wheat, and Malt whiskeys, each of which was aged in standard new oak barrels. Then it was finished in heavily-toasted new oak barrels. This release is the first to have Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall's name featured on the label since she took over the role from Chris Morris — now the brand's Master Distiller Emeritus — back in January 2023. Available for purchase in limited quantities at the Woodford Reserve Distillery and limited Kentucky retailers beginning September 28, 2023. (SRP $59.99 - 375ml)

This is my first woodford distillery series release beyond the Masters Collection and Batch Proof offerings. Enjoyed neat. Nose - toasted marshmallow, peanuts, buttercream, and hints of caramel and cinnamon. Palate - buttercream and whipped vanilla icing start on the front. Cinnamon and peanuts hit at the mid palate. There is a slight oak astringency on the back end. There is also a malt note on the backend. I wish it was more akin to a chocolate whopper note, but it just tastes malty on its own. Finish - the finish is muted and short. Marshmallow, caramel, and a baking spice/cinnamon note remain. Overall thoughts - I consider myself a fan of Woodford products. There have been a couple times i’ve pulled this bottle out and enjoyed it more than this time. This is not my favorite offering I’ve tried, but still one I enjoyed.

Nose: big sweet nose overall, notes of chewy caramel into a big creamy vanilla, and then rye and malt play back in forth between cinnamon and a malted milk ball (whoppers candy) note. Comes off very rich. Palate: Rich sweet notes of toffee and vanilla that does a hard shift to something that reminds me of a hazy ipa. Big citrus and almost a hop note. Finish: rye shows back up with a big vanilla note. You get the 4 grains in a big sweet way.
