Nose is powerful and pungent featuring barrel char, rye spice, fennel, pumpernickel bread, brown sugar, fresh cut grass, bubblegum, and oak. Ethanol nicely low. Palate brings an atypical rye profile with tons of smoke and char, molasses, burnt sugars, tobacco leaf, leather, nutmeg, and pecan. Flavors are definitely rich and dense for the proof. A good amount of astringency and bitterness from the char which overpowers the other aspects. Lacks balance. Lengthy finish offers burnt oak, cracked pepper, cinnamon, and peppermint. Toasted oak notes linger after everything else fades. Mouthfeel is thick and chewy, with pleasant oiliness. Drying finish. So. I wanted to love this, I really did. And while there’s plenty to like, it’s blown away by an overwhelming amount of burnt/char notes. Dense and dark, it’s just not what I am looking for in a rye but other reviewers seem to love it, so maybe it’s just me. At $120, definitely not a rebuy.

Nose - Cherries, chocolate, cinnamon, espresso, hint of tobacco leaves, mocha pastries Taste - Chocolate, espresso, cinnamon, milk chocolate, Whoppers candies, toffee Finish - Long lasting chocolate, espresso, cinnamon, dark toffee, mocha foam Score - 93/100 Final Thoughts - This has an amazing nose that really emanates from the glass and fills the room. It's like a mildly cinnamon chocolate mocha pastry. It hits the palate with much of the same, but with a nice malty light rye spice quality where the rye spice has been mostly tamed by the wood, but there's just enough there. There's this really nice soft earthy leather vibe along with a drinking chocolate that's really nice and lasts forever on the finish. Would I drink it if offered? - Yes Would I specifically order it? - Yes Would I buy a bottle? - Yes NOTE - All reviews are done without factoring in price.
