1800 Silver Tequila

The nose has a surprising seaweed smell. It smells bitter, herbal, and vegetal in a somewhat murky way. A bit too much squash comes out on the nose. The palate is surprisingly sweet and oily with an aggressive grassiness with chalk dust that is really unappealing. The squash flavor is there mixed with gross bread in an interesting but unappealing way. There in something earthy like Sauza Blue tossed in like a lifeline. There's a fair amount going on here and it certainly is interesting, but the result is jarring and unpalatable. A strange prickly spiciness comes through throughout. What it can't be faulted for is the viscous mouthfeel. Good Lord that gross bread though - it tastes so mildewed! Balcones Baby Blue is a bit more interesting with a couple of more luxurious flavors coming through that remind me a bit of Green Spot. This is not as good on any dimension. It's remarkable how little this has going for it - a truly awful tequila! It almost tastes like some bastardized Martinique rum. This is so actively hard to drink that it's impressive, mildewed cardboard and rubber for days. The alcohol is clearly there too. There are hints of other things too like fruits, minerals, and unaged sugarcane rum (squash), but it's awful.

No spirit is off limits for me. I feel fortunate for that since I know more than a handful of people who have had to swear off an entire category of liquor after a wild night. Though I am whisky inclined, tequilas and mezcals have piqued my interest as of late. Today I poured a taste of 1800 Silver Tequila. There's lime and salt on the nose. It almost feels like a margarita by itself! The citrus aroma becomes juicier over time with wisps of smoke. Had neat, I taste a subtle, even smoke flavour with a slight sweetness and afterbite that manifests in the tongue. This has a moderate length, dry finish with faint mineral bursts. To me, this doesn't feel like a harsh bar rail tequila to squint your eyes and throw back. It's fairly monosyllabic but its smooth, straightforward nature and accessible price point would make it a good choice in a Paloma or other tequila-centric cocktails. 7/10

very mixed reaction in a blind taste test with patron silver and olmeca altos. first sip and buttery pepper citrus with little alcohol flavor. long finish of pepper and silky mouth feel. second sip after trying the other two thinner flavor tequilas, a cheap electronic plastic from China flavor hit me. i didn't find the unique flavor im looking for in a sipping tequila in these 3.

This is great for a classic margarita, tequila sunrise, Paloma, and other tequila based cocktails. Sweet, fruity, citrus and agave flavors come through in the cocktail. If you like your margarita on the sweeter side, this is the tequila to use. I wouldn’t take shots or sip this, I’ll stick to a nice reposado for that! similar to Patron Silver but sweeter and haft the price.

Quintessential mixing tequila. Has all the grassy, sweet, and salty notes that you need at a good price point. Probably not interesting enough to sip neat, but you will not have to wince if you do. Perfect for homemade margaritas and palomas.

not bad at all. I haven't had a lot of cheap tequilas. I kinda wanna put this next to cazadores and jimador silver to see who the winner is with my taste but after 50ml I like it. need to get a small size or a fifth to really explore it....
