About this bottle

This silver mezcal from Auténtico Alacrán (Spanish for "authentic scorpion") is distilled from 100% agave espadin. It's produced by Master Distiller Don Lucio Morales at Integradora Comercial Ejutla S.A. de C.V. (NOM O96X) in San Dionisio, Oaxaca. The flask-shaped bottle is frosted; the spirit within is made from agaves cooked in earthen pits, crushed with a tahona wheel and double-distilled in copper pot stills.

I'm a mezcal neophyte and don't have much to compare to (two to be exact, both thanks to my buddy Pranay). We had dinner last night at Tico's restaurant in downtown Boston with my daughter, her husband and her in laws and I was surprised to see they had a selection of mezcals. So while everyone else was enjoying their margaritas I had this mezcal neat. Smokey, earthy, vegetal, and a bit salty are apparently common characteristics to mezcals, at least the three that I've now experienced. I find the smokiness and earthiness the most pleasurable aspects. None of my companions wanted to try it which worked well for me because I wasn't sure I really wanted to share. This spirit confirms my quest to experience the spectrum of mezcals though oddly, I currently have no interest in trying tequilas. Dry glass - earth. Music - Wicked Rain/Across 110th Street by Los Lobos and Bobby Womack.

On the nose I get sweet mesquite wood smoke and peppery barbecue sauce. The aromas build over time in the glass with hints of citrus and agave. - On the palate is black pepper, herbal spices, mesquite woodsmoke, orange peel and a subtle sweetness that is quickly overtaken by the smoky dryness. - The finish is herbal with peppery spices and lingering smoke that eventually fades into a classic agave spirit finish of subtle sweet-sour fruit.

Best mezcal I have probably ever had, made the correct Oaxaca method it gives it a very woody nose and distinguishable Mezcal flavor. I mix it with ginger bear and a basil leave A.M.A.Z.I.N.G worth every dollar

Nose of smoke, citrus peel, cured ham and barbecue sauce. Hot and sweet on the palate, with flavors of smoke, citrus, earth, and a little pepper.

I love this mezcal! It dances around your pallet and with smokey goodness and a sweet finish - well balanced.
