About this bottle

Bacardí Black rum is made from a blend of molasses-based, column still rums aged between one and three years in oak barrels that have been given a heavy char. The rum is then filtered through charcoal for additional flavor.

probably ok in cocktails I'm not a cocktail guy usually, I just wanted a cheap liquor to sip on for a tight budget pay period, saw this for a dollar more than Evan Williams so I gave it a try as I've been having a lot of rums lately. definitely not a sipper. but sipping notes from an experienced liquor store employee: the nose is not scary, goes down smooth, notes of molasses if you swallow right, but then this huge plastic/rubber taste comes in, all invasive-like, that I can only describe as those bendable parts of action figures. as I said, probably okay in cocktails, I find Bacardi so far in their rums to be pretty underated at their price points, but man... not a sipper for sure. wish I got Evan Williams...

I despise Bacardí in favour of Havana Club. It's harder with top shelf bottles, but it's easy with basic selection. Overall quality score is better for Havana and the price tag is almost the same. Havana miss the Dark rum and Oro/Gold one, but they are not essential. As I occasionally enjoy Havana 3 Aňos on rock, Bacardí is no go here. Bacardí basics are bit better than Morgan's, but you can get Morgan's with lower price tag and makes it better pick, even though the Bacardí Black has better taste. But not that much. You can't even make it into Molotov either because it only tastes like gasoline, but not burn like it...

Bacardi Black has a deep mahogany clear appearance, with some alcohol legs. The aroma is of oak, charcoal, rich sugars, vanilla, orange peel, and other items. The flavor is of all those elements, with nougat, perhaps. The mouthfeel is low medium, and Bacardi Black finishes moderately long. This is a beauty. RJT

I made the mistake of getting this thinking it’d be anything like the Cruzan Blackstrap. Wrong! Terrible with lime and sweetener and diet or ginger beer. Not very sweet, definitely no molasses, just a spiced rum with dark coloring. Marginally better than my other mistake which was Gosling’s Black Rum.

Very burnt or charred wet wood, overly pronounced. Does not mix well or taste good with anything. I put it at the bottom back corner of a cabinet. If anyone knows how to stomach this, please share.

Swill. If all rum tastes like this, I'll stick to whisky. Couldn't stand the saccharin sweetness. Too much like cough syrup. Had to mix and shoot to get er down.
