This is a very unusual bourbon. It is subdued, but in a rich way. It's sort of like how American Single Malts often taste like weaker forms of great Scotches. None of the flavors are very punchy, but wood and chocolate are certainly present along with a faint amount of minerals and a little toffee. The flavor is mildly chewy and although there is some bit of cinnamon here, the spiciness is negligible. Honestly, did Distiller taste the same whiskey? There is definitely vanilla and the rich but sweet and subdued flavor gives it a nice essence of the holidays. There is a fair amount going on, though not a ton. Despite its failings, I would be happy to drink this any day. If the flavors just stood out a bit more, this would be an excellent drink. The sweetness might be a bit much for a lot of people, but I like it. The nose has some notable woody spiciness that mixes well with some bitter rye that is earthy rather than full of minerals. It smells herbal, kind of like McKenna 10. The palate is viscous yet more lightly flavored and smoother than expected. There's a lot of clove. The wood tastes a bit damp, but it isn't overwhelming. The prickly spice is nice without being excessively harsh. The rich woodiness is nice, though it's a bit on the tannic side without tasting a ton like leather (though there is some leather flavor). It would be nice with some more sweetness and red fruit here as well as a bit less numbingness from the clove. Still, there's a decent amount of complexity in here with some rich barrel flavors. This is more of what I expected Garrison Brothers to taste like. It's interesting to drink and is fairly enjoyable, though it isn't an instant classic. It also doesn't stray as far into unknown territory as St. George Breaking & Entering American Whiskey does. It tastes good though not excellent and it has reasonable complexity.
About this bottle
B&E Bourbon highlights something in the whiskey that seems to be fleeting from time to time: HONESTY. Dave Smith and Lance Winters of St. George Spirits in Alameda, CA sourced this bourbon and are proud to share that with you, and do so in the name. They traveled across the United States and “broke” into a number of rickhouses throughout Kentucky to select nearly 400 of the best barrels of 5-8 year old whiskey that they could get their hands on to showcase the art of blending. This whiskey is only available for a limited time so grab some if you happen upon a bottle or three.

Given that they're contractually forbidden from saying anything, most of the fun here is in trying to place the source of this juice. My own personal guess is "all over the place," as I get flavours I associate with Barton, Old Forester, Beam, and Heaven Hill. The whiskey itself is decent, but low ABV and unremarkable for the asking price. Flavours are custard, banana, light charred corn, vague vegetable mustiness, light rye, orange peel, cherry coke, mint, and clove. Taste is alternating sweet and dry, tending after the sip toward an interesting herbal, dry, menthol/eucalyptus quality.
Pine, vanilla, and nutmeg on the nose, not a lot going on besides sweetness on the palate. Cocoa or chocolate finish with some caramel, very low burn, no surprise at 87 proof. Fine enough, and pretty curious that it's intent is to show off how blending can be successful, but I don't think I'll be buying this again.
Nice fruity nose which continues on first sip. Incredibly easy sipper as it's dangerously smooth with no burn which could be good or bad but still a lot of life in this blend. Overall a top shelf bourbon for me will need to grab next time I see as I don't come across it often
This bourbon tastes like a mix of Woodford Distiller Select and Double Barrelled. You get the spice of a younger bourbon coupled with the toasted barrel characters like bananas foster. I thought the good flavors dissipated quickly and the finish had quite a bit of burn.
Banana bread on the nose? Actually, yes - I totally get it! Sweet and almost floral on the pallete with hints of cinnamon and spice. Smooth and mild on the finish. Quite nice overall.
