I blame Wisconsin for the amount of brandy I've been drinking lately. Apparently, my new home state drinks more brandy than the other 49 combined. I have no idea why this is. All of the German Lutherans and Catholics giving us a certain Old World flair? The fact that we apparently outdrink every other state in the union by every other metric, so we might as well win at brandy, too? The fact that it's too damn cold here not to drink something so pleasantly warming? Beats me, but it's Wisconsin's fault that I'm sitting here with this beside me. That being said, if this is the price of living in the Badger State, I'm happy to pay. Elegance is right; this is a suave evening tipple. Butterscotch, peach cobbler, a hint of cinnamon on the nose; the palate is delightfully buttery, with ripe peach, almond pastry filling, butterscotch, and cinnamon to be found. For $35 a bottle, it's a no brainer. This'll keep the winter cold at bay on a snowy night like tonight.
About this bottle
Camus (pronounced "Kah-moo") is a five-generation cognac producing family that traces its roots in the business back to 1863. Their estate vineyards in the Borderies cru, an area within Cognac, is the primary source of wine that serves as the base for their spirits with additional eaux-de-vie sourced from all six areas within the Cognac region. For the VSOP Elegance, Maison CAMUS selects aromatic eaux-de-vie partially distilled on the lees, including some from the Borderies cru. It is aged in specially selected and seasoned barrels.

This is my first cognac review. Found this at the local liquor store and from reading reviews seemed like a good starting point for learning about cognac. Nose: The nose is sweet with fruity and floral notes. Peaches and spring perennial flowers are what come to mind immediately. Palate: The fruity notes appear again, accompanied by a cake like sweetness. Teeters on becoming too sweet without becoming so. Finish: All the sweet notes fade into a lovely black tea. It stays around for maybe 30 seconds before fading. The finish is by far the most pleasant part of the cognac. The flavors of this cognac were all pleasant and they worked well together. My complaint is that it seems to lack complexity, fullness, and intensity. Perhaps those would come with more age and a higher proof but in its current form it does leave me wanting a little more. Given the price though it’s a pleasant drink and a great value. À votre santé!
In a snifter and warmed- aromas of raisin, apple, some dark citrus, buttery caramel and vanilla predominate. The taste presents with an immediate caramel and vanilla and sweet notes that transitions over its moderate length finish to orchard fruit then plump black raisin and apple, a touch of brown sugar and baking spices and finally ending on a sweet black grape, vanilla, and spice.
A rich VSOP Cognac from the House of Camus, made including a portion of Borderies eaux-de-vie, which is well-known for using in their expressions. It opens with floral, yellow plum, raisin & vanilla notes; the palate adds notes of almond & walnut; while the finish is long & complex with light oak notes. September 2017
This is nice. It is a good flow of flavor overall. There is an ending that is pretty harsh for a cognac for me. It could do with a drop of water probably but I didn't try
Elegant nose with a rich mouthfeel with flavors of dried peaches. Almost sweet, but beautifully dry with a long, lingering finish of dried fruit and butterscotch.
