About this bottle

Sir Henry Morgan (Captain Morgan, as he is known by the masses) was born in Wales in 1635. He was at various times for the British government a privateer, a prisoner, an admiral, and a knight. He died at the ripe old age of 53 as Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica. Captain Morgan the rum was introduced to the world in 1983 and since 2010 has been produced in the U.S. Virgin Islands after relocating its distillery there from Puerto Rico. Note: In April 2023, Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum has been reformulated to include real Madagascar Vanilla. The packaging has been updated as well so look for that separate listing.

Nose - candy corn, marshmallow, powdered sugar, molasses, Cap’n Crunch, candied orange, caramel, cola, vanilla, black pepper, mild ethanol burn. Taste - candy corn, powdered sugar, caramel, cola, vanilla, black pepper, mild alcohol bite, finishing fast with vanilla, candy corn, and cola flavors. I agree with the expert review. There’s a distinct carnival candy thing going on here. The nose is extremely sweet with marked vanilla powdered sugar and cola notes. It borders on cloying, but just misses being completely horrific. On the other hand, the palate is really bad. It’s rather bland and sickeningly sweet, not completely unlike an artificially sweetened and spiced Canadian Whiskey. The finish is equally nasty with any semblance of flavor disappearing immediately, leaving you with nothing but that bland, cloying sweetness until you find something with which to wash out your mouth. Not recommended for anything but mixing with Coke, although there are better options for that as well.

Okay, so taking my scented notes first, I got vanilla and woody notes. If it tasted like its scent, I would highly recommend it. However, I sipped it without any mixes to give genuine test, and immediately, my mouth only tasted ethanol, I can not emphasise how ethanol the taste is. None of the vanilla or woody notes I scented were present. Adding Coca-Cola removed the ethanol taste and turned the drink into a super sweet, more sugary taste with subtle, extremely subtle, woody hints. It's definitely a budget drink and not something worth having on its own unless you enjoy the taste of pure ethanol. In which case this or any review on this app will not work for you, maybe check the tasting notes of your local gas station for things more akin to your taste.

Once you're teenager with taste for better alcohol and no sense of taste in rums, this is nice boozer. Once you get older, you'll change your mind. With few exceptions, Morgan stand three steps below basic Havana (and one below basic Bacardí), but pricing is one step, so I have no reason to go for it. Nice and not expensive for beginners, but if you'll miss the Morgan's basics, you won't regret. Binge drinking day are gone for me and no one likes heartburns.

A rich, Spiced Rum from the US Virgin Islands made by combining yeasts, molasses, water & mash, distilled in a continuous still. The rum is aged for up to 1 year followed by the addition of spices & flavors indigenous to the Caribbean Islands. It has an aromatic birth with notes of molasses & spices; while a rich life adds notes of caramel & vanilla; that leads to rich death of medium length. December 2021

Fiery nose with touches of ethenol, spice & candied sugar with some vanilla at the end. Slightly harsher with the taste without offending, some more sweetness & sugars with vanilla & faint butterscotch coming through then more of an alcohol burn to finish. It started. Well but definitely one to mix, not for straight up drinking.

It is a very pale amber color with a sweet vanilla aroma. The flavor is dominated by vanilla extract. There is some cinnamon and clove. It is sweet with quite a bit of fusel alcohol. It is definitely limited to mixer status.
