Blind gin tasting, Sydney, April 20, 2019. Nose: Crisp, clean juniper. Pine needles, white pepper, citrus (grapefruit, lemon, lime), lavender, rose, coriander, fennel, rosemary and sage. It’s a bright, clean nose with complexity. Palate: Juniper, lemon, blood orange, grapefruit, cinnamon, powdered ginger, licorice, coriander, orris root, pepper, sage, peppermint. The palate is very fresh and crisp with great presence and an excellent balance between sweet and spicy flavours. The texture is creamy and silken but it also has a dry character. Finish: Long. Juniper, citrus and spice notes. Gin #6 on the tasting card. This was voted best gin of the day by nearly everyone. It was tasted immediately after Monkey 47 (as we later discovered) and outscored that gin, and when the price was revealed it was unanimously declared the best-buy for quality of all the gins tasted, and the outright #1 gin of the day. The nose was different to every other gin that we sampled, due to its almost uncanny crispness. The palate is full and commanding, but not overly spicy, and the finish has very good length and is warming, with a stylish salt licorice note. It's a good sipping gin neat over ice but it also goes very well with tonic water. It's non-chillfiltered and produces a charmingly light, almost opalescent white louche when diluted. "Outstanding" : 90/100 (5 stars)
About this bottle
The brand macerates juniper, coriander and angelica root for 12 hours in a 100% wheat-based neutral spirit. An additional botanical mix with less traditional ingredients like local lavender from the Cotswolds, bay leaf and black pepper are also used. The gin is brought down to proof with water from the Cotswolds. This is bottled without chill-filtration so expect to see a cloudy appearance when chilled or diluted.

Hmm. What I love about Gin is it's diversity...bit of base Juniper and then go for gold. However that does mean is you really aren't sure what exactly the concoction is going to taste like. Now I LOVE lavender..it smells great and grows well suppressing weeds. Birds nest in the bushes we have on our property. However just because you love the smell of something doesn't mean your'll like the taste of it and man do I really NOT like drinking lavender. Needless to say this one is not for me. A good mixer can often save a gin or at least change the profile into a better one but my std go tos aren't saving this one. Roots, Method and Madness, Monkey 47, The Botanist I'd be happy with a bottle this a hard pass for me. Update: New day, clean palate and just not for me. I'm just not a fan of floral gin unless it's got a strong Juniper, Citrus backbone. There was an irish gin with sweet berries or something....Mor it was called.....people also raved about..blarghh. I am now onto Cadrona gin....i should have read the label as I'm now getting assaulted by rosehip...#somedaysyoucantwin
A crisp, Dry Gin by Cotswolds Distillery in Stourton, England made with locally sourced ingredients & botanicals. A combination of juniper, coriander & angelica mix is steeped in the pure wheat spirit for 24 hours before adding locally sourced lavender, bay leaves, grapefruit, lime, black pepper & cardamom. It has a floral birth with notes of lavender & fresh juniper; while a bold life adds notes of grapefruit peel, lime, black pepper & coriander; that led to a refreshing death with notes of cardamom seed & bay leaves. Drammers club online pour. Never thought I would enjoy gin neat but this blew me away. Nose: Lemon, Grapefruit, Juniper, Raspberries, Flowers such as Roses and Dandelions, Oranges, Limes, Cinnamon, Peach, Sour Cherries Palate: Juniper, Cinnamon, Lemon, Orange, Grapefruit, Honey, Anise, Mint, Coriander, Vanilla Finish: Grapefruit, Pepper, Lemon, Orange, Citrus Peels, Citrus Zest, Vanilla
Juniper and lemon and a ton of spices. I feel like there is a lot going on here. Very complex. Can be a little too much for some cocktails, but really good in a Bee’s Knees with 2 oz of Cotswolds, 1 oz of honey syrup and 1 oz of fresh lemon juice. It’s got a hefty price tag also.
Intense juniper flavour in the forefront, with fresh citrusy notes coming into play after the first hit. Long lasting aftertaste. Drink as is or in a simple cocktail. Awesome for a Martini, terrible for an Aviation.
