Acidic citrus and juniper up front followed by a light floral brightness and a touch of oil. Slightly astringent up front but the acidity fades fast. It comes across as similar to Beefeater but smoother, with a little more interest in the back end. $45 in Ontario.
About this bottle
Portobello Road No. 171 is the address of Portobello Star, a cocktail bar in Notting Hill. It is also the address where this gin was conceived. On the second floor of the bar resides a Ginstitute, a gin museum and educational center where guests are educated in all things gin. Jake Burger (bartender) and Ged Feltham (proprietor) spent nine months experimenting before the settling on a recipe. Their gin is made from a base of English wheat neutral spirit and 9 botanicals including juniper, orris root, coriander, licorice root, and nutmeg. It is distilled to their specs at the Thames Distillery in London and is then prepared for bottling with additional neutral spirit and water. It is bottled at 42% ABV.

Went to the ginstitute to learn of the history of gin and do a plethora of tastings before making our own custom blend. The 171 is a solid gin which was particularly tasty in the Tom Collins prepared for us at the start.
On my tour of London gins this just hasn't done it for me quite so much. Bit harsh but will happily visit the distillery post COVID
Not sure why this gets such rave reviews. I’m a classic London dry type of person. This just doesn’t do it for me.
Good all-rounder. Juniper-led, good for a classic G&T but also works well in a Negroni
Lots of juniper reminders me of Harahorn Sweden gin like lots floral
