46%, Non Chill Filtered, no added colour Nose: Citrus, sweet orchard fruits - leaning towards sweet juicy apple, sticky toffee, vanilla and stroopwafel. Palate: Sharp, caramel biscuity waffle - going back to stroopwafel here, apple, pineapple. Finish: meduim long, warming and more pleasant syrupy caramel and pineapple. I bought this whisky as I’ve heard great things at a great price, I certainly gravitate towards meaty oily and heavy texture whisky, in which this definitely is an oily and meaty whisky. I love how this is basically liquid stroopwafel, dutch waffle and syrup biscuits while acompanied by an apple or pineapple wedge. It has a delightful farm yard funk which sort or reminds me of the Loch Lomond but without the metallic over ripe fruit quality. This is definitely on the table for perma shelf status on my end, great price without skimping on flavour and quality.
About this bottle
If you haven't heard of Craigellachie before, you're not alone. This is an unheralded single malt distillery and is the workhorse of the Dewar's line of blended whiskies. Very few distillery bottlings exist, but this 13 year-old released in the fall of 2014 looks like it will be here to stay. This is bottled at 92 proof and is non chill filtered.

Biased opinion: This is the best Scotch that I’ve had so far - I’m very, very new to this. That said, this is absolutely delicious. Unbelievably full of flavor. Apples, vanilla, and a wonderful warmth. Not to mention the lovely lingering aftertaste. It really stays with you for a while. Best of all, the price point is really not bad at all. Unfortunately, I’m head over heels, so I’ll be forking over a lot more money in the direction of this and other similar distilleries. Very excited to continue down this road and explore more. And a HUGE shoutout to the local connoisseur who came through with this excellent recommendation. Absolutely 10/10 I know it’s not the best scotch out there, but for me and my journey, it has absolutely been a five star experience. 💙
Nose - a bit of apple, black tea Taste - fruit that has been steeped in various spices Finish - moderate length with more spices and a bit of carmel-like sweetness that sneaks in at the end Score - 4.0, I quite enjoy this one. Not too bold in any specific area or flavor, but a well rounded dram that's easy to like Scoring Legend 5.0 - Outstanding, unmatched to others 4.5 - Excellent, I will always keep a bottle in stock if possible 4.0 - Very good, quite enjoyable to drink, can consider as a solid choice 3.5 - Good, would taste again 3.0 - Average 2.5 - Acceptable, still drinkable 2.0 - Inferior, able to drink but not enjoyable 1.5 and below—wouldn’t drink again unless I am desperate
I was anxious about this one after hearing so much about it. So many flavors in such an affordable bottle bringing 46% ABV with natural colors and non chilled filtered scotch. What else do we need in a whisky? At first on the nose I got mild hints of sulphur to be overpowered by caramel, apple and honey. That apple diped eith caramel bite is what i sense here. The palate brings that gingery, spice feeling together with the sweet apple. Then the finish takes you to the Spanish Sherry wines with a walnut finish. It’s very unique to have a finish that is so similar to a sherry wine. The walnut finish is very distinct and pleasant. Very good scotch that I recommend to anyone! Slainte Mha!
NEAT NOSE - Apple, Pear, Grilled Pineapple PALATE - Everything that comes across on the nose follows through on the palate along with a body of vanilla. The mouthfeel is silky smooth but not as coating as I thought it would be judging by the legs. FINISH - Short unfortunately, but the flavors entice you to quickly take sip after sip. BUY? - Yes, especially since this is such a great value. BUY AGAIN? - Yes, absolutely. This is a great flavor profile with a great age and price point. It’s a fruity speyside and I’m just getting into scotch so I’m not sure if that’s normal or not. Nevertheless, it’s worth the price of admission and worth your time.
This is one of my absolute favorites and kind of defies description….. Nose. Foremost it is fruit and vanilla but there is also a sourness and an oily industrial funk that makes this magical. Palate. Moderately oily mouthfeel. The nose does carry over nicely to the palate with an added touch of leather. Finish. Long. The fruit fades and the oily industrial funk persists.
