Let sit for about 5 minutes. 👀: Very pale ocher, at first glance definitely looks more oily and viscous than other cognac I've seen, legs are substantial; 👃: Immediate whiffs of Mott's apple juice, sweet sugary scents, jam; 👅: The same sweetness you smell you end up tasting, some flecks of sugar and grape (not Mott's), fruity notes abound throughout the palette; 🏁: Ethanol hits you at the very end, medium finish that dissipates, typical cognac sweetness.
About this bottle
Ferrand 10 Générations is a cognac produced entirely from the ugni blanc grape grown in the premier cru of Grand Champagne. It was created by Alexandre Gabriel, founder of Maison Ferrand. The cognac was distilled on the lees (using unfiltered wine) to provide a complexity. It matured in French oak barrels, 20% of which were ex-Sauternes casks in a humid cellar. The name 10 Générations is a tribute to the 10 generations of the Ferrand family that have passed down their knowledge of viticulture and distillation through the generations. Mademoiselle Henriette, the last descendant of the main branch of the Ferrands, was the guardian of the family history and she entrusted these memories to Gabriel.

Bitter & raw oak tannins dominate from taste to finish. The sauternes influence gives it a bit of a extra intense dessert wine flair but it is otherwise indistinguishable from the ugni blanc base. Sultana raisins, cedar, almonds, poached red apple, dried apricots, mild white peach, licorice, herbal, nutmeg, pinch of clove, an unusual nuttiness like a scotch ale. A tad too delicate compared to ferrand amber. Underwhelming.
Vibrant nose of grape spirit enhanced with a polish of oak. Wonderful opening on the palate, showcasing a rich and expressive flavor of deep grape eau de vie, tight and well aged oak barrel, and a lightly floral mid-range adding a zestiness to the overall presentation. Warming, eminently drinkable, and perfect for enjoying on its own or used in classic cocktails calling for a rock solid foundation.
Like a seductive noblewoman having a tryst with a commoner, the appeal lies not only in what is revealed but also in what is concealed. That lingering mystery that leaves you wanting more.
Aggressive woody notes on the nose. Incredibly silky smooth on the palate! Rich dried apricot and pear softens into a finish of golden raisins. Wonderful!
Aromas are apricots, peaches, spice, caramel and malt. Flavors are similar to nose, sweet with a jammy full texture. Very nice.
