About this bottle

Flying Tumbler is an independent Irish whiskey bottler founded by siblings Patrick Walsh, Thomas Walsh, and Jen McGinnell. They source, mature, blend and bottle their whiskeys in Co. Carlow. The Bird is a no-age statement Irish whiskey made from a blend of grain and malt whiskeys which were aged in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-oloroso sherry casks. It's bottled at 43% ABV. This bottling launched in the US in April 2022.

Lucasjj 4.0

Quirky independent light whiskey blend matured in bourbon & oloroso barrels. Hints of citrus/dried fruits which is quite mellow and a pleasant but little too short a finish. Very light burn, not overpowering, I tried it neat but possibly would benefit from a drop of water next time round. Pretty unique scent reminds me of sour cream and chive! A little pricey but as an indie I let them away with it. Aesthetically it has a nice quirky design which is a departure from the typical Irish Whiskey style and a bottle more similar to Japanese styles with individually inscribed batch numbering on each bottle & tube. Probably sounds stupid but the purist in me would like to see a cork rather than a screw cap. I think this is only available in Ireland, well worth checking out if you can. Possibly 3.5 star review but I'm feeling generous and have a soft spot for the indie bottlers. Two more releases to come in the future which I shall be checking out.
