Tasting through my amaro cabinet and revisiting some classics. This is one that was hard to escape in the 80's. Harvey Wallbanger anyone? Always a flavoring agent, this isn't something to be drunk neat (at least not twice). And yet here I am... Ick. Sweet. Primarily the flavor is fennel and anise, sugary bad vanilla, and something that tastes like weak furniture polish. This is truly disgusting. That said, a splash in a highball can be an interesting flavoring element. But just a drop, because you really don't want to taste this by itself. Everything has its place. Galliano's place isn't in a glencairn.

I like Galliano even if for me it is a one-trick pony. I bought this a good while back for my bar to make a Harvey Wallbanger and the flavor is really nice with the vodka and OJ. However, until very recently I have only used it for that but it can make a whole bunch of drinks like a Galliano sour and Hot Shot. It will take some getting used to in tasting that flavor with other things. I like the anise and vanilla flavors and how they mix with other things. I know there are other liqueur out there but I like this one. Enjoy.
Very herbal on the nose, juniper, mint, anise, flowers, and any number of things that i can’t identify, like elements of fernets and Chartreuse. Relatively sweet on the palate with a touch of heat. Flavors dominated by anise, but include mint, juniper, and again, lots of things that I can’t identify. Lingering anise finish, slightly sharp in a way similar to absinthe, but much softer.
An intense, Italian herbal cordial that has an aromatic birth with notes of fruits, herbs & spices; while a rich & full life adds notes of citrus & ginger; that led to a long & bold death with notes of vanilla, anise & peppermint. November 2016 / May / September 2017
1.22.22 Served: Neat, flute. Bottle Open: Same Day Aroma: vanilla into anise. Flavor: Starts Vanilla, mids caramel, finishes licorice. Very simple. Medium strong sweetness and body.
I taste the herbs. Think it's misclassified, tastes like gin to my trained pallette.
