GEORGE DICKEL HAND SELECTED BARREL 9YR(ish??) Barrel #: 14D02-21704 Date: 04/02/2014 *NOSE: Thick and Syrupy. Oak, Vanilla, Maple, Praline, Toffee upfront. There is a Grassy Undertone. A hint of Freshly Mowed Lawn and Hay. A bit of heat is the only fault I can find. *NEAT: The Syrupy Sweetness carries over. Heavy Coating Mouthfeel. Oak, Cherry Cola, Maple, Vanilla. Nice warming finish with blooming TNHug in the chest. There is a slight medicinal note on the finish that lingers. Cherry Cough Syrup? It’s extra clingy, coating tongue, teeth, gums, and cheeks. Very good. *SPLASH: Brings out some Tannins and a bit of the Flintstone Vitamin that Cascade Hollow is known for. A little Bitterness on the Finish. Not enough to ruin it, but it’s definitely better neat. *VERDICT: My love for all things Cascade Hollow took a serious hit with the 15YR release. However, the 11 and 13 year BIB’s have continued to be stellar, and the Dickel 8YR Bourbon is very solid. This stellar Hand Selected Barrel reminds me that I need to put George Dickel back in heavy rotation. 4.25 **I suspect this maybe closer to 10-11 years old. It was barelled in April of 2014 and was new to the shelf at the VA ABC I visited.

Drinking this neat, neck pour. This is a store pick, barrel number 144, 51.5%. I’m getting light banana, but also cherry? That’s confusing.. Charcoal mixed with nail polish remover? Tons of oak on this one. The finish is buttery smooth as expected with the charcoal filter. Again I get oak and also a leathery tone. Im not sure this was exactly what I expected, but thats the gamble you take with SP and not to mention Dickel in general. I’m going to follow up this tasting with the 2008 fall release 9yr and see the comparison.
My bottle was selected John's City Diner. You get the classic Dickel flavors, a little fruity, a little smokey, and a noticable mineral taste. I get plenty of sweetness and a nice rich spiciness. A little corn, baking spices, and charred oak make themselves known. It finishes sweet with no bitterness. This is a nice bottle for sipping.
Summary: A sweet nutty whiskey which opens up to a sticky sweet cherry cinnamon pastry. Color: Light Gold / Honey Nose: Starts as a varnish glue, then opens up to a sweet almond with notes of cherry and grape. Taste: Syrupy sweetness with notes of cinnamon, baking spices, and dark fruits. Finish: Spicy but smooth medium finish
Nose: Brown sugar and maple. Neat: Sweet and spicy. Brown sugar, vanilla, caramel, and buttered corn notes tie in nicely with quite a bit of spice throughout the experience. The spice lends to a harshness up front but mellows to a nice spice flavor on the back. Overall very enjoyable.
Nice high end bourbon. Slightly above average for the price range. I would go for something else though if I was spending this money again. This was a store pick from Southern Spirits in SC, and it’s good, but prefer other store picks we have had in the past over this.
