This is a very fine gin when you can find it. I have tried the Old Tom Gin from Haymans and this is a much better offering in my humble opinion. It has a much better body and the botanicals stand out more in cocktails than the Old Tom. First off I noticed the juniper and coriander on the nose with some citrus. The body is a wonderful citrus mix with a few deeper spices closing out the sip. However, this is a Navy Strength Gin if you make drinks at regular ratios like 3 to 1 for a Martini, 2 to 1 for a Gin and Tonic, or 2 to 1 for a Gimlet it will put you to sleep. I made a Vesper once with this and my ears began to ring on the second sip. But it is worth it. The flavors are so smooth and the price is great but it is not always available in SC where I live. This is a true step up from the regular Haymans and the Old Tom version. Enjoy.
About this bottle
The Hayman family, the longest running gin producing family in England, returned to their family archives to produce Hayman's Royal Dock Navy-Strength Gin. Using a recipe from 1863, they created this Navy-Strength Gin. Named for the Deptford Dock in London, one of the famous homes for the Royal Navy, this gin was given to British sailors during the 19th century. Made with ten different botanicals: juniper, coriander, lemon peel, orange peel, angelica root, cinnamon root, cassia bark, orris root, licorice, and nutmeg - this gin is is bottled at 57% ABV.

114 proof navy strength gin from one of the oldest English distilleries. Tasted neat. Clear with a light cloud in the glass and strong coating legs. Nose is clear juniper up front, then pine, citrus, and floral sweet. Oily coating mouthfeel, evergreen and deep organic spices, and sweet in the mouth. No real ethanol burn given the high proof. Ok, a touch, but very easy. Forceful balanced flavors, yet soft, creamy, and rich mouthfeel. Tingling spices, evergreen, and nettles in a long finish. Sweet, clean, lucious. Tried this in a G&T and Gin Gin Mule with mint. Wonderful--holds its own and isn't overwhelmed. Martini comes next. Would put this right up with my favorites--Plymouth, Sipsmith, Fords. Unfortunately, hard to come by in Utah and surrounds. Will make the search sweeter.
Surprisingly great at a low price. It has a strong juniper flavor but isn’t overpowering. As others have pointed out, it’s spicy and fruity, and very drinkable at 114 proof. No particularly unusual flavors, perhaps an usually strong citrus note, but done well.
I dont have a great palate but this gin hits me right. Spice, juniper, slightly thick on the tongue. Neat it is excellent, need to try a gin and tonic.
Definitely navy strength but surprisingly smooth. I drink it straight with lemons and it’s quite enjoyable
