About this bottle

Hillrock Estate is one of the pioneering field to bottle distilleries to produce whiskey in Hudson Valley, NY since Prohibition. This whisky was made under the meticulous care of Master Distiller Dave Pickerell, formerly of Maker's Mark. It is made from barley grown in the fields at the estate, and malted in house, ensuring every aspect of this whisky is monitored on premise. They even custom-built a 250-gallon copper pot still for the job!

I don’t care for peat flavor in general really. This to its credit is not overpoweringly peaty. Interestingly they age the single malt in their own used bourbon barrels from the “nursery” batch that feeds the solera cycle. Finished two weeks in oloroso casks, 2 weeks in Pedro Jimenez casks and they malt their own barley grown on the farm.

I love this color! I actually bought it for the color, but kept it for the taste. It's bourbon-esque (is that a word), with a kick of rye. If you like bourbon and rye, it's for you. Not really comparable to Scottish single malts or blends at all. Worth a try---but pricey , can get better value elsewhere

Wish I had read user reviews before dropping a c-note on this. Smoke and leather from nose to finish. Not for me. I fail to see how anyone can smell or taste anything else over the smoke. It’s all this has to offer. Disappointed in myself for not doing my homework.

Dark caramel and amber in color. There are notes of corn, black pepper, and apple, but the strongest scent is sweet toffee. There is a warm sweetness on the tongue that recalls buttery popcorn and crisp apples with a smoky finish.

The whiskey presented wonderfully in it's bottle, with hard edges and thick glass base. The taste was complex, ranging from sweet to peppery. My mouth and nose were left pleasantly smokey and peppery well after my glass was empty.

Wow. Sweet and rich on the nose with hits of carmel and cinnamon. Flavors are the same with more notes of leather, vanilla, black cherries. Smooth going down with a bit of a bit to finish. 1 small cube.
