A gift from my brother. Very weak, almost diluted forward flavor. I only picked up on bitter apples on the finish, which oddly arrived before I had even swallowed my sip. I tried my best to get through the whole bottle, I really did, but eventually it went into a reduction for an extraordinarily tasty sausage and peppers dish that my wife prepared. That's where the 1.0 rating came from. Tasted neat. My brother? We're no longer on speaking terms.
Iron Smoke Apple Wood Smoked Whiskey (Discontinued)
About this bottle
Iron Smoke is a partnership between rocker Tommy Brunett and distiller Drew Wescott, based in Fairport, New York. Brunett sought to amplify the flavor of the whiskey by smoking the grains - corn, rye, wheat and already smoked barley - over applewood prior to the milling and mashing process. The whiskey is aged in new, triple-charred American oak and brought to proof with local spring water. As of 2018 this product is no longer in production.

This was a solid bourbon overall, but lacks the refinement of others readily available for a similar price point. The low proof (40%) is a bit on the boring side. Is it smooth? Absolutely, but that comes at the cost of complexity and quite frankly, fun-factor. There’s simply not much to comment on. It’s bourbon, and that’s about it.
A lot of apple wood on the nose along with vanilla and smoke. On palate it is sweeter than expected - like sugary sweet. Tastes like an apple pie with icing. I might have hoped it to be milder on the sweetness and be smoother here. But nevertheless an interesting bourbon to try
Great whiskey smooth and smokey and a bit sweet. A little hard to validate the asking price for a regular drinker, but worth a shot now if you can find it due to the discontinued nature.
Not my thing. Smokey without being off putting. Strange after taste I cannot quite put my finger on. I would pass on a bottle. Glad someone shared with me.
Smells like sweet marshmallow Tastes like nothing, very little taste, bitter with a marshmallow ending. Where is the smoke??
