I reviewed the Legacy #1 right around the holidays last year, and now it’s time to give this one a crack as well. This is 2/2, so this short-lived run ends here. But #1 was surprisingly decent so I’m hoping this can deliver as well. Nose: Banana walnut muffin. Gala apple, brown sugar, and caramel. Toffee and vanilla. Toasted almond. Some green apple Jolly Rancher and bubblegum. Mint. Cinnamon, black pepper, clove, nutmeg, and oak. Palate: More of the banana walnut muffin. Cinnamon Apple Jack’s. Gala apple, brown sugar, toffee. Caramel and vanilla. Sort of a caramel apple note. Maple sweetness. Sort of a maple-flavored almond butter. Black pepper and cinnamon. Finish: Toasted almond and maple. Caramel, vanilla, toffee, gala apple. Cocoa, pipe smoke, black tea. Clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, black pepper, and oak. Moderate length. This is easily one of the better things JD has put out. This should replace the Gentleman Jack tomorrow. Of course that would never happen, but this has the full-bodied flavor and balanced palate that the standard Old No. 7 and JG could only dream of having. And it only took an extra 3% ABV and maybe a little more time in the barrel. None of the dusty astringency I get from the lower-end JD bottlings. This also handily beat out the #1 Edition. So that’s the end of the limited Jack series. At $36, VFM is strong here. I’m boosting this from a 3.75 to a 4.25 with that last metric in mind. Glad I grabbed it.

NOSE: Bananas! Also, some vanilla and furfural alcohol. TASTE: Vanilla, caramel, banana, furfural, hints of leather….a soft, warm taste. FINISH: Warm, soft, kind of short…. Nothing down the throat (in other words… No “Kentucky Hug”!)
Wonderfully round bourbon notes. Right on the nose. On the sip there’s also that candy banana note that I only find in JD but it’s a nice oily finish of warm brown sugar and caramel with a kiss of wood
It OK. Just OK. Not crazy diff from black label. The green label still best value. I will give it time to breathe and come back.
Holy crap this is amazing. Not your typical Jack Daniel's at all. Clean, smooth and kinda has a sweet start.
Better than normal Jack, but not my favourite whiskey. I can drink it happily but would I buy again no.
