I had these while waiting on a five hour layover from Cabo to EWR in Mexico City's Aeromexico premier lounge. Kept the kids busy with tv and sandwiches and I got to sample a few free tequilas and mezcals. Nose is almost like fresh laundry coming out of the dryer. Taste follows with even a cleaner minty palette...one dimensional and simple, and sometimes that's okay. I wouldn't refuse a free sample of this, but I wouldn't go out paying for it either.
About this bottle
The brand Mezcal El Silencio is named after the bar in the movie "Mulholland Drive." El Silencio Joven was released in Los Angeles in late summer of 2013. The Joven is a blend of three types of agave: mexicáno (aka rhodacantha), tobasiche (aka karwinskii), and espadín (angustifolia). It is a Oaxacan product made by Master Mezcalier Pedro Hernandez and is distilled in copper pot-stills. It is unaged and bottled at 80 proof.

Smokey throughout and I was pleasantly surprised by it. Smelled like a charcoal grill after cooking ribs. Smooth for a blanco. I would buy this for days of grilling out and it would be a good mixer for a mezcal Bloody Mary or for taco night.
The initial taste is very smooth and musky which transitions to banana (leaf) mid palate. the finish is very easy and lingers for a moment. A nice sipping mezcal through and through
- floral, vanilla - Honey, vanilla - Longer finish, a little sharp - Great flavor, the initial taste is the best part
Nice Smokey mezcal
