On the nose is overwhelmingly sweet mesquite wood smoke with fresh agave aromas underneath along with ripe peaches, cooling mint, herbal notes and a hint of adhesive. - On the palate is initially sweet agave, but quickly overtaken by a massive burst of rich smoky flavours billowing out of your mouth. Smoked meat, charred barbecue sauce, a hint of baked apples followed by fresh citrus zest and more mouthwatering smoke. - The finish is all campfire, embers, charcoal, smoke, wood and light herbal hints accented by a slight sweetness.
About this bottle
Distilled from estate-grown espadín agave averaging 7 to 10 years of age, and is double-distilled in pot stills after the agave hearts are roasted in traditional stone lined pits. The Marca Negra expressions each detail things such as location of the distillery, production details, and the name of the Master Mezcalero. The square bottle is marked with a black handprint intimating the hand of the mezcalero (distiller) which in the espadín expression is Abel Nolasco Velasco.

This mezcal smells like the love child of a retired racing tire and a can of petroleum, the low-in-ethanol kind. It tastes... surprisingly good. I mean, it’s definitely powerful, and it has a long palate.. you actually feel it in the back of your throat, much after you’ve taken that sip. It coats your tonsils.. and lingers on, just in case you forgot you it. Slightly sweet.. I wouldn’t say it’s smoky, but it’s a little briny.. but it’s good. To put it differently, if you gave it as a gift, you’d make friends.
An intense Agave Spirit by NOM-O72X crafted with 100% Espadin agave using traditional methods. It has an aromatic birth with notes of agave, fruits, flowers, herbs & spices; while a rich life adds notes of caramel & smoke; that led to a long & balanced death. April 2017
Smoky, sweet, fruity & salty delight. My first ever time to properly taste Mezcal & I love it. You can almost see the burning agave in front of you in the desert. This definitely is going to be one of many to come. Salud!
Definitely feeling the heat here. Otherwise it’s fruity and quite mild. Probably my least favorite Mezcal I’ve tried so far.
Quite tasty, might need a bottle of this one to fully explore. All of the Marcia Negra mezcals are quite solid
