New Amsterdam stands out as one of the most consistently cheap vodkas with a surprisingly sleek bottle to boot. A perpetual mainstay of Millennial's budget drinking, New Amsterdam always stood out to me as a vodka I could enjoy back when I loathed vodka (oh how things have changed!). Returning to this vodka after sampling so many vodka offerings is quite eye opening: for the price, New Amsterdam is an amazing vodka that can't be beat. The nose is pleasantly muted and gentle. There isn't a burst of alcohol fumes or any unsightly chemical smells. The prevalent scent is of sweet corn underpinned by a faint trace of alcohol. There's not much else to say here. This is as simple as aromas get. Uncomplicated is the name of the game when it comes to the palate. You get a very prominent sweet corn taste throughout the entire experience. It doesn't waver or taper off nor does it feel like sugar was added in an attempt to make it sweeter than it naturally would be. It's a nice, natural corn sweetness that makes for a simple, smooth experience throughout. A light bitterness marks the finish but as far as corn vodkas go it's quite a tame, gentle bitterness that doesn't detract from the proceedings. Even the burn is very mild, registering as a light-medium sensation for me. The texture is nothing remarkable. It's a bit more on the oily side, similar to Tito's albeit less prominent. Everything about this vodka is simple, accessible and well executed. There's nothing exciting here but by the same token, there's absolutely nothing wrong here either. It's a well made vodka and for $10 it soundly beats out many competitors at higher price points.

Tasted both regular New Amsterdam, as well as Peach and Apple flavored versions as well. Very mediocre all around. New Amsterdam unflavored is about what you expect from a vodka in that price range. Slight burning taste, not particularly smooth even chilled, poor aftertaste. You can tell even unflavored is meant to be mixed and not drank straight unfortunately. The flavored (Peach and Apple I tried) fate a bit better, though not much. Considering they are 70 proof vs. 80 of most traditional vodkas they are a little less hash in that respect. However they are sugary/syrupy, and almost over flavored. The Apple especially reminds me of 99 Apples. Overall there isn’t any reason I’d recommend New Amsterdam. It’s average to below average. To many other vodka in that price range that are much better: Russian Standard or Effen are much better for unflavored at that price range
I tried this vodka on a business trip recently and it is a "well" drink at best. It smells like rubbing alcohol and a little baby oil mixed in. It is cheap and that is not a bad thing. It mixes well with OJ and coke and that is what it is good for. It reminds me of drinking shots in college and I hope I have outgrown this. This is a good mixer at best and I did not like it neat.
Certainly not terrible for the price, but this is a very plain grain vodka. It's slightly buttery with a palate of orange creamsicle and a touch of cough syrup with a tiny bit of grain bitterness on the finish. It's got a fair bit of ethanol too, but not enough to be a ruined experience. Won't buy any more but it's not bad for ten bucks.
At least to my palette, I get practically nothing from this, extremely neutral with just a hint of sweetness and ethanol. Very much the textbook definition American vodka. Which where I live it's priced basically the same as Smirnoff 80 proof and Platinum 10x. Which also similarly I find to be very neutral vodkas.
The description says burning, but I think we should go with "peppery" as a peppery vodka it has s good flavor to let you know your drinking something. try with a lemon or St Germain. Don't sip alone
