Neat. Tasting the entire Altos line..first time for the añejo. Nose is sweet, ethanol bright, fruity, barrel oak and must.. Moderately thin mouthfeel, honey/light caramel sweet, a little char, a little dessert nut (hazelnut/macadamia/almond), cinnamon, mint, and just barely some of the herbal notes of the younger expressions. Big fan of the younger expressions, and this is true to the brand The añejo notes are lighter than other cheap añejos, but also tastes more natural. Additives seem restrained if not absent. Great value, haven't found a better anejo for less $
About this bottle
Olmeca Altos Tequila was created by two prominent UK bartenders, the late Henry Besant and Dre Masso, in collaboration with Maestro Tequilero Jesús Hernández, who has been distilling for almost 20 years. Released in 2016, Olmeca Altos Añejo Tequila is the latest in the brand's lineup and it begins with 100% blue weber agave harvested 7,000 feet above sea level in the volcanic rich soils of Los Altos, Jalisco. Traditional production methods are used, from slow-cooking the agave in brick ovens then crushing the agave using a tahona stone, they way it was done 500 years ago. After double-distillation in copper stills, it ages 18 months in bourbon oak barrels before bottling.

A spicy nose with a hint of a vegetal quality to it. The spice is still there when tasting it almost reminding me of a sweet rye with a long slow finish. If you like whisky you might give this a shot
86 Nose - log/ earthy, yogurt, sweet smooth on tongue, caramel, buttery, light/thin with character Little oak, fruit caramel Definitely enjoyable
Tasty but a little harsh... Too much of that tequila smell and afterburn... Need to revisit
A very nice añejo, which really shows the age and wood. Sharp, woody, and whisky like
Smooth with a smokey ending little to no bite nice sipper neat.
