About this bottle

This limited edition expression was produced in 2009 at South Pacific Distillery from molasses that was fermented 4 to 5 days. It was distilled on a combination of copper pot and column stills, then matured for 7 years in ex-bourbon casks. It was then transferred to France where it was aged a further 2 to 3 years in ex-Ferrand cognac casks. A dosage of cane sugar caramel E15oa between 0% and 0.1% was added before bottling in 2019 at 44.8% ABV.

This is quite spicy. There's a lot of bitterness and firework hogo. It's a bit meaty too. The palate has an huge richness to it and the flavor is very full. It can be a bit oppressive, but pay it more attention and the flavors develop more. Vanilla and butterscotch come out with some odd hints of Cheetos and some grainy (wheat and rye) notes. There might be a hint of corn (or banana?), but it is minimal. The spices taste a tad like Christmas but clove is the most prominent by far. There are some suggestions of fruit but they are minimal. Alcohol can be spotted, but it is largely overwhelmed. The fireworks are really strong and although I do enjoy the complexity that is somewhat present, the balance is off. This is in the 15 to 16 range.

Great sipping rum that has no added sweeteners. Nose : Winy, tanning notes coming from cognac, destinctive sweetness and notes of vanilla and coconut. Taste: Starts light with tropical fruit and citrus note, then the body comes through with some burn and taste of dry raisin and apricots, the burn is just nice. The finish is surprisingly sweet and dry at the end. I love the lightness and complexity of this rum

Wow, what a great nose, its rich with vanilla, dried bananas, hogo, papaya, oak, sour cherry and baking spices. Palate has a silky entry which is quickly followed with a spicy, prickly bite on the tongue, there’s vanilla, caramel, pepper and light tropical fruits, quite a let down from the nose, but still tasty. The finish is long, spicy and warming with a nice little chocolaty note emerging at the end.

This tastes incredibly like a single malt scotch. Wonderfully unique and pleasantly surprising. Especially seeing Plantation on the label.

Fruity with some hogo, rip banana and cognac. The finish is long and the cognac shows through from the aging on the tongue.
