Not tasting side-by-side with the regular expression, but I’d say the smoke/peat is extremely subtle and on a quick taste I’d be hard-pressed to identify this as something unique from everyday Stiggins. That being said, I do enjoy this as a sipper and I think it’s worth the price tag for a tasty treat. I also have enjoyed this more than I recall enjoying the typical release as well - it is different, but hard to put one’s finger on exactly how since the casking influence is muted. I recommend this neat to preserve the creamy consistency and keep the flavor concentrated which evokes a sophisticated pina colada or painkiller. The pineapple is delicious with a good balance of sweet, tart and bitter notes with a vegetal backbone that pairs nicely with the cane spirit. Yummy!
About this bottle
This limited edition bottling is a spin off of its Pineapple Stiggins’ Fancy Rum which is a pineapple-flavored dark rum. This expression gets its smoky profile from the finishing casks from Teeling Distillery. Specifically, they use Teeling Blackpitts whiskey casks — a peated Irish single malt — to finish aging the rum. While this had previously been available in other markets, it is launching in the US beginning March 2023 at select retailers. (SRP $34.99)

This has a wonderfully light pineapple and molasses/brown sugar aroma. Compared to the original Stiggens' Fancy Pineapple this is better. While I don't get a smokey flavor it is lighter in overall flavor. There's a gentle sweetness about it and, of course, pineapple flavor. I get an almost Vics Vapor-Rub smell & sensation on the retro-hale but more pleasant. Odd, i know. But i love this rum! Tastings based on neat sipping.
Nose of pineapple with strong smoke. Front-end is a clear pineapple and maple syrup which quickly transitions to the smoke. An interesting take on the original.
Lightly Smokey while maintaining a balanced sweetness. It has a slight rim funk to it that is complimented by the Smokey notes.
Huge rum flavours on the nose, light body very sweet, tropical fruit, spice, nice medium long finish.
