About this bottle

Lost Monarch is made from a blend of straight bourbon and rye whiskeys (60% rye, 40% bourbon). The bourbon was made from a mash bill of 75% corn, 21% raw rye, and 4% malted barley and the barrels selected were aged 4-12 years. For the rye, it was made from a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley with the barrels aged for 3-5 years.

Rating: 15/23 N: Sweet corn against a woody vanilla backdrop. There are some classic herbal rye scents going on here as well. P: A fragrant, floral, vanilla flavor, with herbal flavor and restrained graininess (notably, herbal, sweet, floral flavors- then more classic herbal flavors). There's some malty sweetness that also has a bit of tangerine and orange peel, but that's all quite light. F: A bit of bitterness and clean water, but it's also floral with plenty of vanilla. It almost wants some decadent orange, but I still do get some malt or something. - Conclusion- This is definitely better than Redwood Empire Pipe Dream (12/23). It's richer, fuller, and more interesting. There's more rye flavor as well. This is a lot better, though it's far from amazing. I actually enjoy this a bit though, unlike the Pipe Dream. Russell's Reserve 10 (16/23) is better than this, but not by a large margin. Honestly, I thought that this would be a 14, but it really could be a 15. It's a tough call, but I'm leaning toward a 15. I really like that decadent, complex rye character.

I dont know what to say. You may love this. I bought a high west American prairie finished in scotch barrels. I bought glenfiddich scotch finished in bourbon barrels. I hated them I haven’t particularly loved finished bourbons like doc swinsons, Isaac bowman, derringer rabbit hole and beyond. I like my scotch to be scotch, bourbon to be bourbon, and cognac to be cognac. As a kid I mixed all my sodas at Pizza Hut because of peer pressure from my friends and thought it sucked. I don’t particularly like my side items to touch the main course. In my opinion, finished and blended whiskeys remind me of being a kid with a set of paints and you think if you mix them together you think you’ll invent some new color but it ends up being an ugly brownish gray. If my comments resonate with you, this might be a bottle to avoid. If I sound like an old man that complains about change, this might be just what you need.

On the nose this whiskey smells like a mix of citrus, cinnamon, and butterscotch. It’s a sweet and spicy combo that gets me pumped to get into it. Growing up, my mom always made orange cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning and this is exactly what this reminds me of. It’s a velvety whiskey that unfolds on the palate, revealing the rich warmth of a cinnamon roll. Each sip carries the comforting essence of cinnamon, intertwined with subtle notes of vanilla, creating an amazing combination of flavors. As the taste evolves, a delicate touch of orange icing emerges that is sweet and citrusy. Super tasty stuff. This is a great bourye for a great price. Another plus is that it’s in a really cool bottle. Love having it on the shelf as a display piece. I’ll need to pick another one up soon.

I purchased a few weeks back with the intention of having it as my pre-thanksgiving sip.... The nose is soft and inviting, with very light notes of berries, very light. Upon the first sip I was taken aback... This is 90 proof right?.... This blended bottle (bourbon/rye) is very soft, yet spicy, and there is a sweetness about it that reminds me of drizzles of honey. Throughout my sips i could taste faint notes of apple, maybe a green apple... Not the candy type but more of a natural flavor. Yes, it's different than my essential bourbons (WT101, EC, BT, EW BiB, etc), but sometimes different is good. I definetly would like to try the other expressions from Redwood Empire. As for tonight, I'll continue to sip on... Happy Thanksgiving.

Nice blended bourbon and Rye Whiskey. It really does taste like a blend between a bourbon and rye. On the nose you get a some sweet vanilla, some light oak, a little bit of caramel, some of that traditional rye spice, and a little bit of a herbal grassy note as well. A lot of that translates to the palate with the rye flavors slightly overpowering the bourbon flavors. Finish is relatively short and id want it to be longer but i get some toasted marshmallow on the back end. I really liked my first few pours but it kind if fell off for me as i got further into the bottle. For the price its a good pour at around $30. Some things could be a little better and some things a little worse, so i think a pretty average whiskey.

I was really excited when I first picked this up and couldn’t wait to try it. I got it home and really did not like it, I am trying again after siting for 3 months. On the noise I get oak and lots of rye spice, a hint of mint, and some grainy notes. On the palate there is short bust of sweetness, followed by rye spices that are very light, then I get oak and some heat from the rye, also I get that grain/ floral/ earthy notes on the finish. Certainly less sharp then when I first tried it but overall I am not sure this will rate as high for me as some others. I have limited rye experience so I need to get used to the spice and other notes you get from this grain.
