At the price I paid, this is definitely worth the money. It’s more than adequate neat, and goes very nicely with Coke. Since the price is quite reasonable I have no qualms with mixing it. Obviously it’s no XV (let alone Centuria, which is fantastic!) but it doesn’t pretend to be. Definitely worth the money. Recommended.
About this bottle
Ron Abuelo is produced by Panama's Varela Hermanos, an enterprise that grows its own cane and controls the entire process from hand-harvesting to distillation and ageing. The 7 Años rum is produced from a blend of pressed cane juice in season and cane juice plus molasses during off- season--both aged in used bourbon barrels before assembly. The resulting color is a light amber/gold.

Nose: herbal and sweet. Well balanced. Some rubbery notes, mint. Aniseed. Vanilla. Palate: exactly what expected from nose. Balanced, vanillla sweet, herbal. Finish: oak, sugar, some pepper. Herbal. I reaaly like this profile.
This is really good rum. Rather on the sweet side, molasses, bit of nuts, vanilla, nothing surprising in classic flavours pallets. Very good sipper. I'm looking forward to test 12 years old one.
Got this as a souvenir from a friend who went to Costa Rica. A pleasant, sweet sipper with some surprising savory notes! Get yourself some good friends y’all 👏
It’s a bit sweet but it sips pretty well and has some nice depth. Hardly any burn. I’d grab this regularly in the mid-$20s as an all purpose aged rum.
