Got a bottle as a gift from my son. The nose is kind of flat, although the 114 proof isn't as hot as you would think. The pallet is mildly sweet with a hint of the wine cask. Finish is spicy and satisfying. All in all it has a somewhat unique flavor profile that I like. Something tells me this one won't gather much dust!
Rough Rider Happy Warrior Cask Strength Straight Bourbon
About this bottle
Rough Rider from Long Island Spirits is an ode to the first US Volunteer Cavalry assembled there by Teddy Roosevelt in 1898. This soldier is brought to field with MGP-made bourbon (60% corn, 35% rye, 5% malted barley mash bill) aged a minimum of 4 years in 55-gallon barrels and is married with older bourbon. This batch is then given a second maturation for 3 - 6 months in ex-merlot and chardonnay French oak casks that have been washed with aged brandy. The wine casks are sourced from local Long Island wineries and the brandy is distilled by LI Spirits. The bourbon is bottled at cask strength after the final mingling occurs.

One of my favorite small batch bourbons, healthy dose of toffee, caramel and vanilla. Cask strength provides a solid burn up front. I prefer drinking it ice cold, which brings out the intense flavors.
Wow, that’s definitely a bit better than the standard proof RR. The wine notes are mostly welcome musty fruit overtones on a hot, spicy core. @Zslug @OtisDB
Another, virtual happy hour: @Zslug @Kyle-Metes-Randolph @OtisDB @brandymcnamara @jdjmad love you all equally but differently!
Wow ... great bourbon. Easy to drink ... not hot at all ... great nose and very drinkable and enjoyable
In honor of my “uncle” Dan, who also shared TR as his favorite president. In pace requiem.
