About this bottle

Siete Leguas, named after the horse belonging to Pancho Villa, is a Highlands tequila from Atotonilco El Alto. Agave piñas are harvested, cooked in ovens, and then pressed by either a mule-driven tahona or shredded by more contemporary techniques. The aguamiel (honey-water) is then fermented and distilled. The reposado expression is aged for eight months in white oak barrels.

Nose- I get citrus, vanilla, and some over ripe melon, like the rind of a cantaloupe. Palate- agave nectar, and pepper are dominant. There is a "Flintstone Vitamin" quality to it to. Dare I say similar with what one may get in a Dickel whiskey? I don't mind it, and actually find it to be an interesting flavor. The sip is rich, and coating on the tongue. Finish- this is a Loooooong finish! For better or for worse it stays with you. Gets a bit woody and ethanol on the exit. Black pepper fades to a white pepper zing. Wish I had more of the cantaloupe on the way out. Overall- this is a nice tequila. Not a great tequila, not a must have tequila, but a fun sip. What really got me going on the positive side was the rich mouthfeel, and the peppery zing. The minerality threw me a bit, but made me want to sip more. Kind of like rubber necking an accident on the freeway? It wasnt off putting, but just didnt have to be there. My principle concern was the finish. Normally I like a long finish that hugs you. Being an experienced whiskey drinker who loves barrel proofs, I would embrace that. This however takes it to a new level. It hangs around like a guest that you really enjoyed their company, but just doesnt quite know when to leave! I find myself asking continually when will it ever go home. I can take or leave this one. For the 49.99 pricetag it was a good experience. Over that.......I would say it extended its stay too long

I feel like this might be a great… reference tequila. Their blanco is just a yard stick against which I keep finding myself judging others against. Their reposado here is what I feel like other repo’s I’ve had have been dancing around or trying to mimic. It’s got that bright, vegetal cooked agave sweetness that screams “tequila”, but rounded out by woody, earthy, vanilla notes and more complex elements like brown sugar, lyche fruit, and deceptively tropical elements.

Neat. Very pale straw color, long legs. Aroma is excellent. Fruity, roasted agave with light butterscotch and vanilla sweetness. Balanced nicely with musty oak, char, minerals, some herbs and black pepper. Taste starts with the agave sweetness, with an immediate punch of cinnamon candy, with some fruit, vanilla, oak, black pepper, butterscotch, black pepper, mint, citrus, and a hint of floral. Finish is sweet with some oak and slight red hot candies

Siete Leguas reposado continues to strengthen the standard that its blanco counter part sets. The predominant flavors of roasted agave shine through which is at the central core of every agave purist. The nose is complimented with aromas of raw and roasted agave, flashes of fleshy peach and plum, slight oak, and nuances of eucalyptus. On the palate we distinguish the same robust cooked agave, vanilla, oak, cinnamon, and an oily texture on the tongue.

Uncorking 🍾 Let sit for about 5 minutes 👀: While waiting for the bottle to air, pale straw notes can be seen; very clear; 👃: Smells very vegetal and grassy; sweet sugar cube whiff; a bit of pepper in there; 👅: Really oily; pepper notes fleck throughout; really sweet notes; some lemon and lime in there at the end; 🏁: Taste does linger for a bit; the citrus remains; very refreshing; chef's kiss

Siete Leguas Reposado 90 Smell is refreshing and clean. Not clean like cleaner. Clean as in pure. Sweet on the nose that is presented on the tongue. Definitive barrel influence without destroying the agave spirit. Prevalent oak, sugary “”very faint lemon”” that pushes the beautiful ripe agave flavor. Smooth bright light pepper finish. A true mastering of tequila. Thanks Bill for the sample!
