A bold, Rye Danish Whisky by Stauning Whisky Distillery in Denmark crafted with malted Danish rye & barley entirely floor-malted on-site; distilled on open-fired stills, double-distilled in copper pots; then aged in new American oak casks before being bottled at 48% ABV. It has an aromatic birth with notes of grain, wood, dark fruits, nuts, herbs & spices; a spicy life adds notes of fresh baked rye bread with melted butter, black pepper, mint, blackberry & lemon oil; that led to a balanced death of medium length with notes of toasted oak, vanilla, cinnamon, pecan praline, cocoa & stone fruits. About this bottle
Stauning Whisky launched in 2005, and is named for the Danish village where it's located along the west coast of the country. The distillery uses a series of small, direct-fired copper pot stills for production, and also conducts its own floor malting with local grains, as well as local peat and heather. The Stauning Rye expression is a three year old made from 70% malted rye and 30% malted barley. It's bottled at 96 proof and is part of an inaugural U.S. portfolio that launched June 2021.

Nose: Bright and bold with notes of fresh rye bread, caramel, vanilla, and a touch of orchard fruit. Palate: Full-bodied and spicy, with layers of cinnamon, toasted oak, honey, and a hint of dark chocolate. Finish: Long and warming, with lingering rye spice, sweet vanilla, and a touch of herbal freshness.
Rich berry, vanilla, and mellow spices throughout. The rye spice is pleasant, not overwhelming. Like some others reviews, there is a slight mint and notes of cinnamon. The rye and sweet flavors peak quickly, level out, and linger for a while. Overall an enjoyable sipper.
Very mild nose of apple and mint. Deep golden amber color. Thick, leaving more ribbons than legs. Hot alcohol on the palate, then a mild taste of something creamy, followed by more mint, and a bitter mild pepper finish. I don't care much for ryes, but this is decent.
I don't get too much on the nose. Palette is definitely herbal with spiciness and maybe a little piney with a hint of vanilla. With a finish of a sharp burn, reminding me a bit of bourbon. Overall is not a bad rye although not something I would likely go to.
2023 Flaviar Advent Calendar - day 9 Nose: herbal, citrus, mild honey notes Palate: wheat, honey, spicy, oak notes and just the barest hint of smoke Finish: wheat comes out even more in the finish, while the spiciness cools off a bit
