About this bottle

The Macallan invests an exorbitant amount each year into the wood in which they age their whiskies. In the case of the Sherry Oak Cask Series European oak sherry casks were predominately used with some American oak sherry casks used as well. Additionally, the majority of these barrels were first-fill casks which will mean even more color and flavors are picked up. After 12 years of aging, this single malt is bottled at 43% ABV with natural coloring. No caramel coloring is used.

The aroma is just like the pile of apple and pear peels you left for a few minutes after peeling them. Well, there is a slight creaminess, a slight honeyiness, but it is definitely not your typical sherry. On the palate, the fruit peel is now citrus peel - oranges, tangerines, bitter for sure. There are also quite a few spicy, bitter spices, but the taste is entirely citrus, uncompromisingly dominated by citrus. The finish is lemony, fresh and medium. A very good and fresh whisky, but it definitely lacks complexity and something that says “boom”. I know it is an expensive pleasure for cocktails, but it seemed to me that its citrus flavours could do a great job for some summer cocktails. 82/100

Classy scotch. Beautiful copper coloring with legs that won’t quit. It is extremely smooth and oily. Tastes of crème brûlée, vanilla, malt, biscuit, cherry, and apple. Some think this scotch is too expensive. It is not a everyday drinker. It’s for special events and occasions. I’ve bought many a $80-$100 bottles of bourbon or scotch. Keep it on the top shelf and use it for special friends and events. This bottle shows you are a serious scotch drinker and may convert others to our world. Cheers!

I started to learn to drink scotch a few years ago because of my scottish heritage. I started with macallan and then went onto more robust scotches. This is not to say macallan is not good , it is very good. So when i come back to it from time to time I am reminded of its quality and simplicity. It is delicious and well made and worthy of any shelf.

Macallan 12 sherry always slaps for me. Nothing else tastes like it, dont believe the haters who say you can replace this with glendronach or something else. Glendronach is also wonderful but tastes nothing like macallan. Macallan 12 is very balanced, with a bit of raisin from the sherry, milk chocolate, and a mouth watering saveriness.

Some caramel and fruit on the nose. Subtle fruitiness on the palate, definitely less fruity than other sherry finished whiskeys. Woody flavors are prominent, with some sweetness on the palate. The finish has a nice tingling sensation on the tongue and roof of mouth. My favorite sherry so far
