I am not a Tequila guy. Not by a long shot. After a youth filled with pounding Hornitos or Patron shots to Lil Jon's ubiquitous song of the same name, tequila makes me vomit in my mouth a little. But some friends of mine begged me up and down to try some "good Anejos" before turning my back on the spirit forever. The name that came up the most? Tres Generaciones Anejo. I am a full fledged whiskey nerd. I can't stop talking about whiskey and must have it at every social gathering. I LOVE the stuff. Compared to the woodsy and charred heat of whiskey, this tequila sips almost.... cool? Reminds me of the earth. Very vegetal flavors and earthy tones. Do I detect some mint? Perhaps it just tastes so because I'm so used to whiskey. The flavor is so delicate and dare I say refreshing? Okay... I'm not a convert. I'll stick with my single malts and bourbons. But the next time I am out with my friends... I don't think I would mind ordering a neat pour of this stuff. Pretty pleasant indeed!

Let sit for about 5 minutes. Uncorking 🍾 👀: Pale hay, legs dissipate quickly, looks thin when agitated; 👃: Immediate agave notes, some sugary sweetness in there, vanilla, some type of citrus spritz in there, a little leather; 👅: Some heat which gives way to sweetness at the back end, some mint leaves, very smooth, peppery flecks in the back of the mouth; 🏁: Short finish, a little butter at the end, more like your traditional tequila.
The first Anejo Tequila I tried. It's been many years but I remember it reminding me of brandy and it being good, better than most tequilas I had at that point. My father shared it with me and I was... quite young. My father was a gourmet cook and new a great deal about wine, that's how he brought me up. Next time I grab a bottle, I'll do a more helpful review.
Rich smell, less sweet, but more floral. This anejo is missing forward sweetness, but its smooth, minerally some oak, and a slight peppery taste. Definitely some floral notes as well. Very different and in a nice way. Just prefer more sweetness, but goes down real easy.
Fresh agave and citrus on the nose. The palate has more sweet agave before a sharp finish. Not as much pepper as many tequilas, but the flavor is pretty straight forward. A good drink but not a great value.
It’s not Adictivo, which I can’t find here in Washington, but it’ll do. Nice sipper with a smokey nose, strong pepper on the palate and easy to enjoy.
