About this bottle

Casamigos (loosely translated to "house of friends") is indeed the tequila brand created by George Clooney and Rande Gerber. The agaves are sourced from the Highlands of Jalisco and this reposado is aged for 7 months in reconditioned whiskey barrels and is bottled at 80 proof.

Not one to leave well enough alone, I was at the store purchasing a bottle of Casamigos Anejo and I had to pick up a bottle of their Reposado. Now admittedly, I bought both bottles with the intent of making mixed drinks from them ( Tequila Old Fashioned from the Anejo, Tequila Sunrise from the Reposado ). Not sure if that is blasphemy for the die hard Tequila fanatic but hey, I'm just starting to dip my toes into the tequila pool. The nose of this Reposado smells pretty similar to their Anejo, sans the underlying butterscotch flavor. These tequilas all seem to have an herbaceous, citrusy smell. But underlying this one is something brighter and sweet... some vanilla perhaps? The palate of this tequila is significantly closer to that fresh cut grass, earthy flavor that I remember tequila having in comparison to their Anejo. However, there is complexity and a remarkable sweetness that tails in the palate that tastes of sweet pineapple juice. It isn't overwhelming and it is barely there but it comes on in a flash and is gone for the finish. Why can't that pineapple sweetness stay a bit longer? The finish offers up more of that familiar, herbaceous cut grass and pepper. A bit of tobacco leaf brings a bit of tannic bite but then, quite unexpectedly; that finish bows towards sweet. When breathing through your mouth during the tail end of the finish, you get a surprising whiff of caramel chews. Wow, where did that come from? Tequilas are opening up a whole new taste experience for me, being a die hard whiskey fan. I'm not sure they'll ever win my heart over, but they are a nice change of pace from the usual and actually quite pleasant.

When I first tasted/smelled this one, it blew me away. Because it was, well, unique to me at the time. It’s still got it: something really potent, cotton-candy-like, maybe almost grapey, but like grape flavor, not vinous at all. Berry notes. But as I return to it, I’ve come to find it a bit cloying on the finish and a bit too hard hidding up front. It’s been a challenge to mix with, because it takes over the drink. I find myself wondering… if that flavor, whatever it is, is coming from Agave, the barrel it’s aged in, or… ? Additives? The more I drink it, the more it tastes vaguely artificial.

I get agave on the nose and a moderate amount of vanilla. The palate is agave, and vanilla. A lot of vanilla. So much vanilla! The finish is earthier and milder, sand, clay, wet stones. A bit of smokiness, almost mesquite as well as lingering agave. Pleasant from start to finish. My only complaint is I'd prefer a bit higher proof. From drinking whiskey, I've gotten used to 92-100 proof on a lot of my sipping favorites, and coming back to 80 makes the spirit feel a little weak. The mouthfeel is actually a bit oily and it has a lingering smokiness.

Agave, vanilla, smooth. Just really good for the availability and price. I wasn't sure if the hype was gonna be as good as the product but yea i can see myself drinking this regularly in tequila old fashioned's, straight, or sipping. So good for a reposado that i know i can go to the store an know it's there. Like really really good. Update: Okay I don’t care for the added sweetness in the blanco version of this but in the reposado it blends well. The vanilla just meshes so well with the aging. Mmmm yum. 8/17/22

Garbage vanilla additives. People that like this might as well sip Vanilla Coke. It is not real tequila, it is made for gringos who love sugar. Same category as Don Julio 1942 and Clase Azul - all garbage tequila brands that fleece ignorant gringos. This is full of additives; yea, tequila can contain up to 1% additives by volume and not disclose it on the label. This stuff is disgusting and a disgrace to the name Tequila.

Still trying to expand my tequila knowledge, but this is definitely my favorite out of the Casamigos collection. I have purchased this bottle more than any other tequila. As the Distiller tasting notes say, it is very versatile. Due to the quality of the spirit, it makes for a high quality Paloma or original Margarita. However, I prefer to sip this guy on the rocks. Very rich with a nice balance of sweet and spice.
