Nose is milk chocolate, chocolate milk, Yoohoo, Nesquik--it's seriously chocolatey. There's maple syrup and vanilla as well, giving it a depth and richness which is truly enticing. I can only fantasize about how this would taste as a reduction. Palate adds woodspice, molasses, mocha, and faint tobacco leaf with a dense, oily texture. Palate is syrupy sweet and as decadent as any dessert. The finish is medium, remaining sweet, but adding a bit more citrus and clove before fading back to chocolate.
About this bottle
Zaya Gran Reserva was previously made in Guatemala but is now produced in Trinidad & Tobago. This product formerly had an age statement of 12 years, but now the bottle simply has the number "12" displayed on its bottles. That number is to indicate that Zaya Gran Reserva is made from a blend of 12 rums which aged in medium-charred used whiskey barrels.

Zaya is nice rum for sweet tooth folks. Interesting sweet chocolate smell. Strong caramel and decent chocolate taste, mollase hints with hits of vanilla and lime. I personally recommend this as ladies rum. Very rich (but sweet taste) for him and lovely caramel taste for her. This is birthday cake of rums.
Nose: Very sweet vanilla custard Palate Sweet with note of baking spices and banana. Finish sweetness lingering with syrupy banana and a faint hint of baking spice Overall: just expanding from whisky to the world of rum and it has great flavor! The sweetness makes it a perfect post-dinner drink!
Deceptive labeling, deceptive product. Nothing about this "rum" is truthful and there is so much sugar added that it should't even be labeled as such. Avoid at all cost. Also, Distiller should take down the "12 year" label because that hasn't been true for years.
A rich, aged Rum from Trinidad & Tobago that has an aromatic birth with notes of cane sugar, wood, herbs & spices; while a rich & full life added notes of brown sugar & oak; that led to a balanced death of medium length. December 2015 / June 2017
Pronounced vanilla on the nose with some maple syrup and mild spices, delightful on the palate, smooth and creamy, sweet vanilla, almost on the verge of too sweet but never goes there, finish is short and sweet with a hint of spice.
