This is the first release in the brand's Oak Series, a new set of experimental American whiskeys with a focus on cask maturation in different oak varietals from around the world. Here, the American whiskey was aged 12 years in French oak barrels -- some with char and some without. Bottled at 50% ABV, availability will be limited to an online lottery taking place April 4-11, 2024 via the brand's website with winners having to purchase in-person at the ASB gift shop in Virginia. Really nice and smooth- up front I get heavy cherry flavors and some medicinal notes (almost like cherry cough syrup but in a good way, and not at all a syrupy texture). Less of the "charred wood" than I thought there would be but some subtle oakiness. Only moderately spicy finish, a bit of nutmeg and pepper. Cracked for 40th bday.
