Admittedly I'm new to rum but this one seems odd. Other members on the shelf right now are Cacique Anejo and Capt. Morgan Dark. BCN is sweet to start and bitter to finish, in very rapid succession. I have not found a happy mixer for rum yet, to my tastes, and guess this would be better served drowned in something sweet with its own dominating flavour. Straight it's a bit nasty really, on ice bearable. I wouldn't buy another and may well donate the bottle I have.
About this bottle
This expression is a blend of molasses-based rums that are aged up to 4 years in heavily charred barrels (the word "negra" is Spanish for "black"). The liquid is charcoal-filtered. Note: Bacardí Carta Negra and Bacardí Black Rum are one and the same.

Full disclosure: I haven’t tried many rums! This one has a strong smell of molasses with perhaps a touch of allspice. It tastes strange, though: thin and bitter, with an spicy and almost rubbery or tar-like finish. It’s better in mixed drinks or stirring into eggnog, where some of its strong and slightly off-putting tastes are masked and balanced.
Ich sehe wo er hin möchte… schafft er allerdings nicht im Ansatz. Gibt schlimmeres, wo war noch gleich 🟰 die Cola 🥤.
This is the perfect combination of price/quality.
Ruikt en smaakt scherp puur. Gemixed wel okee.
Prima basic rum, prima voor een baco!
