About this bottle

This is the third release from the brand's Cask Finish Series featuring blends of straight bourbons with unique finishes. Here, BCS begins by blending straight bourbon whiskeys from Indiana (aged 6, 7 & 9 years), Tennessee (aged 8 & 14 years), and Kentucky (aged 8 years). Then the blend gets an additional year and a half in Japanese Mizunara oak barrels. Bottled at cask strength of 116.42 proof, its available at select retailers nationwide and via BCS website beginning April 2024. (SRP $89.99)

Aroma- Really nice nose here. Tons of sugar candies and citrus notes. Getting a nice baked brownie profile from time to time as well. Some dried tropical fruit notes begin to come forward as well (like what you find in some of those prepared trail mix bags) Taste - Everything from the nose transfers to the palate. Still getting lots of citrus, sugar candies, and tropical fruit notes. The chocolate comes and goes and when it hits, it is very nice because it really creates a lot of depth and richness. It prevents the palate from being too sweet from the fruits and sugar candied notes. Overall - Unique flavor profile very nice mouth feel and long finish… just keeps on going. The finish is really nice … keeps developing and various notes dance on the palate. Really clean for the proof too… not much heat. BCS just does a wonderful job of creating insanely unique and complex whiskeys. For the price, this is spot on. With each sip, you get subtle differences in the flavor profile which draws you back to the glass. Moreover, the finish is just awesome.

Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium amber. Nose: Caramel and cinnamon, reminiscent of a candy apple. Palate: Cinnamon and clove, with some oak and baking spice. Finish: Medium heat, but long length. The clove notes are very pronounced. Splash: A spearmint note appears. Overall: 9/10 - I like where this is going. This is my first mizunara finished bourbon and it won’t be my last.

Orange, cinnamon and honey. Sweet with a long finish. The mizunara cask finishing is a great complement to Barrell’s blending skills. Masterful IMO.
