In 1928, coming from Cataguazes (Minas Gerais), Norberto Luiz de Almeida Filho bought the Itatinga Farm, where cachaça production was started with the mill powered by animal force (driven by oxen) around 1938. From 1946 onwards, the cachaça was labeled as "Cachaça Tinga". In 1956, the "Indústria de Aguardente Tinga" was officially registered with the Commercial Registry, and on this date, Nilo Luiz de Almeida, Norberto's son, began working with his father and sought new horizons for the business. In mid-1978, the company's name changed to "Indústria de Aguardente Itatinga", and Expedito Ferreira took over the management of the distillery, maintaining all the production tradition learned from his father, Nilo. In 2004, Expedito invited his son Tulio Almeida to continue the family tradition,In and Tulio registered the Tinga and Ibituruna brands with the INPI (Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property). Thus, even today, Ibituruna Cachaça is produced artisanally, with the Itatinga Farm distillery being a true open-air museum. The name Ibituruna cachaça is a tribute to Pico do Ibituruna, located in the city of Governador Valadares, Minas Gerais Unfortunately, there is no information available about this cachaç, but aged in American and French oak barrels. It has a distinctive flavor due to periods of aging in American oak, culminating in a blend originating from French oak, where it receives an accentuation of the malt. The producer states that it contains 66% French malt, but I believe this is incorrect because Brazilian regulations do not allow the addition of malt to cachaça. Golden yellow color, dried fruit, almond, vanilla, coconut, alcohol present.
