About this bottle

The 2014 Limited Release Borderies VSOP, a creation of Cellar Master Patrick Leger, is comprised of 100% single-growth Borderies grapes and composed mainly of ugni blanc. The eaux-de-vie are distilled on the lees with careful attention paid to the “Coeur de chauffe” or the "heart of the distillation" to extract the full range of aromatics possible. Lastly, it underwent a period of careful and closely-watched ageing in a dry cellar, then in progressively damper cellars, in order to preserve all the finesse and aromatic expression of the Borderies.

Bottled in 2018. I don’t know if there’s cognac nerds out there who care as much about this stuff as whisky nerds, but: - This is single growth certified - No 06606/15998 Batch 02/2018 That’s a lot of information for a bottle of cognac these days. Buttfuck, it’s bottled at 40%... and I don’t think a rapper drinks this yet. I buy VSOP cognacs for cooking because I use cognac in cooking and, as a general rule when cooking with alcohol, I don’t use stuff that I can’t also sip on while cooking. There is currently no widely available VS cognac that I can truthfully say that I would want to sip, including Camus VS, which is around $10-15 cheaper than this bottle. Out of all the VSOP bottles I have tried, this one was definitely the stand out; to the point I stopped cooking with it and sacrificed my Hennessy, Hardy, and AE Dor instead. The Borderies VSOP is delicate, lightly fruity, earthy, and even a little grassy. It is well suited for the 40% bottling strength. Some liquors are just so sexy being soft and suave that you actually don’t want them to be stronger. Scapa 16 instantly comes to mind in my more familiar mindscape of Scotch; but this is one cognac that is in its element just whispering to you. Camus is a brand that has recently been seen rather frequently on shelves at my local liquor stores. This bottle has impressed me enough to try their XO expression. Score: * (unforgettably good) How much does a bottle cost?: $45-60 How much do I think a bottle is worth?: $60

Lovely cognac. Spicy, very fruity and sweet, but not cloyingly sweet. The flavor is bold, extravert and may lack some complexity and subtlety of an XO, but many times I like a brighter, open flavour in a cognac better than a dense concentrated sip that mimics an eight course dinner of mainly sweet deserts. It could however be a tiny bit more tart. I do however favor similar priced whiskys over this cognac, how bold this cognac tastes, it still is pretty muted in comparison with even the lightest scotch out there. But this spirit is very smooth, no alcohol burn whatsoever.

It's the optimum point for $100 cognac... On nose might not express intense aromas but still got floral, orange, zest and vanilla.. only nose alone might be a little less than expected. But in mouth it's very smooth and very easy to drink with aromas of orange, floral, soft wood, vanilla.. very balance medium body cognac, with moderate aftertaste (but you might not feel much since you'll take another sip so fast because of its mellow). Considering a very nice bottle and smooth-balance liquid for this price... very worth!!
