About this bottle

Casamigos is a tequila brand created by friends George Clooney, Rande Gerber, and Mike Meldman. They have chosen NOM 1416 (Productos Finos de Agave) to be where this tequila is made and agaves from the Highlands of Jalisco are chosen for distillation. Their blanco rests for 2 months in stainless-steel before bottling at 80 proof.

The final bottle of the Winter 2025 50ml Clean-Up left me with a celebrity novelty, but it's still tequila nonetheless. I've had the reposado version of this and only remember it being one of the sweetest tequilas I've ever had, almost capable of being poured over ice cream if not for the thin consistency. Even though this is a standard 80 proof tequila with no age, it's concerning that the back of the bottle indicates a vanilla finish, and really makes me wonder how all of the age statements would be capable of this super sweetness. Here's hoping some of the more vegetal notes from the agave can be captured here without any sweetness overpowering it. The nose is very aggressive and somewhat bitter, with notes of carbon and cleaning chemicals, similar to high wine heads right off the still. There's nothing about this that is appealing, but there are still very faint notes of raw, vegetal agave, and even the vanilla that was predicted from the start. The initial flavor and body are both light and unimpressive, but this flips quickly when the carbon and vegetal notes from the nose start digging into the gums with a raw and aggressive burn, again reminding me of fresh-off-the-still distillate. The finish has some notes of green bell pepper and black peppercorn, and indeed a small touch of vanilla (although kind of artificial and not very sweet), but is far too strong and unrefined to be sweet or approachable for almost any crowd. This is definitely a disappointment (as most celebrity spirits are) as far as tequila goes, and rests right on the line between "not enjoyable" and "actively disliking." It has no place for drinking neat, nor would it lend anything to most cocktails. Given that there are plenty of other tequilas around this price point with far better flavor and quality (and minus the unnecessary celebrity endorsement), this is worth ignoring in the store and in the public bar alike.

Purchased at Costco for the princely sum of $48 or so as an impulse buy. I'm not big into blanco tequila other than for mixing cocktails, although I love mezcal. And maybe mezcal, a recent addition to my fascinations, is why I'm impulse buying tequila; to see what I may have missed? I don't know. The answer is far less important than the question. And the question is 'what does this tequila taste like and is it worth adding to the bar?" Tasted neat from a shot glass, a copita and in cocktails as diverse as a tequila martini (60ml Blanco Tequila, 30ml Bianco Vermouth, orange bitters, orange twist garnish), Margarita, Mexican Mule and as a chilled shot (no training wheels). The nose is agave forward with a bit of lime citrus, vanilla, mint, coconut & slight ethanol. On the palate this is pleasingly sweet, very simple in profile and easy to drink. I hate the word "smooth" but I'm sure that's how many fans describe this. I'm thinking more "bland", "expected", "stereotype", and even "the MacCallan of tequila". In other words - and let's be perfectly clear here - this tastes good. Everyone will like it. Some will love it. A few will make a note in passing that they've had it and it doesn't need to be revisited because it's just not that interesting. Count me there as a member of that group. This is the tequila to bring to a party for people who want to do shots of tequila but are turned off by rough edges. You know, adults and like that. This isn't a cocktail tequila, lacking the spine to show through in a Margarita or other juice-forward concoction. I mean, it's okay and all but... there's better. No way this works in a good Bloody Maria, it's way too soft. Good taste if not at all demanding or daring, overpriced and a good flex for gift giving. Above average but not really... so 3 stars is a good compromise rating.

My main gripe with Casamigos is the price point. Granted with Clooney endorsing the product & it's surging popularity they can charge a premium but it feels inadequate given that you're buying a Tequila with additives and a very artificial flavor profile. At $45 a bottle I'm looking to get the real deal and not a Tequila I'd be fine mixing and only occassionaly sipping. Make no mistake, by itself there's nothing wrong with Casamigos unless you're a diehard Tequila purist. But if you aren't then this is an incredibly smooth, fun to drink Tequila. Seriously, this stuff has no burn at all and there's hardly a finish. Just a super simple, extremely easy to drink product that is great for shots or mixing. The nose is of agave and (artificial) vanilla. That's it. Similarly it just tastes like agave, caramel and some fruit I couldn't quite pinpoint but if I had to hazard a guess I'd go with dried plum. The entire experience feels entirely artificial though. This almost plays as a sweetened, flavored Tequila rather than the real deal. Given the price range this just isn't acceptable. It's fine to make a product that's meant to be accessible if artificial but quite another to be charging this much for it. A clear instance of paying more for the brand and prestige than the actual product. This is a Tequila for people who don't like Tequila and that's fine. This will likely get many newbies interested in the spirit. I just can't in good faith give it any more stars given the price point. If it were at $18-25 per bottle this would be an easy 3.75 stars and my go to mixing Tequila for sweet cocktails where the more subtle Tequila flavors would be obscured.

After my latest experience with mezcal, I picked up a bottle of tequila that I have been wanting to try for over a year now and really should have read the last few reviews here. Casamigos Blanco tequila is not worth the price and in my area, it is just above $40 a bottle and I have had better Blanco tequilas at much less in price. In the glass, it does coat the sides nicely and on the nose, it has a fairly pungent aroma but that is not bad it lets you know right off the bat that you are about to drink a real agave tequila and not tequila that has had a neutral spirit added to it. The body is earthy and a bit rough but it is a Blanco tequila with no aging. The finish is peppery and harsh with the earthy notes lingering the most. My favorite Blanco tequila is Corralejo which I will be reviewing in the next week or so. Given the price, I will not be repurchasing this again but I am on the lookout for new tequila so I am open to suggestions. Enjoy.

This really shouldn’t need any introduction at this point. I’m stepping out of my whiskey box to give another tequila a crack. I do that a couple times a year. The Reposado was a pretty solid mid-shelf tequila, I’m hoping this is similar. Nose: Lime and agave. Vanilla and an almost marshmallow-like sweetness. Floral notes, along with some fresh-cut grass. Lemongrass. Dragonfruit. Palate: Vanilla. Cucumber. Lime and grapefruit. Peppermint. White pepper. Jalapeño. Dragonfruit. More lemon and lime; almost like a Sprite. Finish: Agave all the way. Cucumber. Dragonfruit. Lime and grapefruit. Black pepper spice. Short-moderate finish. Nice clean tequila. I think I may prefer this to the Reposado. More natural-tasting,and not dominated by one prominent note the way the Repo was. At $45, I’ve noticed this is increasing ever-so-slightly as the years pass, but the juice was worth the squeeze in this case. 3.75/5.

Tasted neat. Minerals, saline, lime, and floral sweetness on the nose. Alkaline minerals then a huge floral vanilla burst that dominates the mouth. Mouthfeel is ok, but the flavors are sweet and one dimensional and slip away fast. But then, the finish--grassy flavors and tingling mint suddenly appears and builds and builds and coats and numbs the mouth. Strangest thing--from modest in the mouth to more interesting on the finish. A nice light tequila, clean and saline, but its all about the vanilla and mint. Dont get much/any roasted agave. Too expensive to mix.
