About this bottle

This Farm Strength Uncut Bourbon is a permanent addition to the Frey Ranch portfolio. This farm-to-glass small batch straight bourbon is made from the same recipe as the brand's flagship bourbon, all grown, harvested, milled, and distilled on the Frey Ranch: 66.6% dent corn, 10% winter wheat, 11.4% winter rye, and 12% two-row malted barley. The bourbon is an average of around 5 years and is bottled without chill-filtration at cask strength. Available in California, Nevada, and the Frey Ranch Tasting Room as of June 2023 with an expansion to Arizona, Ohio, and Georgia later in 2023. (SRP $79.99)

Nose- starts a bit herbal lile haystack, almost like an unpeated scotch. I get a sarsparilla note that is really pronounced and good. This turns to vanilla and egg custard. There is also a candy corn about it, with a touch of evergreen deep in the background. Very interesting nose. Inviting. Palate- starts similar to Stranahan's with a nice caremel cream backbone. The viscosity stands out as it is coating but not syrupy. There are some ripe berries followed by nutmeg and then the heat comes in with some of that hay. Not a bad sip at all! Finish- the last note of caramel really stays with you, and the higher proof lets you know this isnt bashful. The one note I could do without is a little bit of new wood, woodshopiness on the end OVERALL- DAMN FINE WHISKEY. I Have been curious about this brand and can say this is a quality addition. The price is a bit difficult for being NAS, but the attention to craft is definately there. A winner for me

Day No.13 Having this neat was an eye opener in regards to the heat. Normally I can take the high proofs well, but this was a bit on the ethanol side. With the higher proof i was hoping for more complexity. There was a plentiful amount of herbal/grassy influence from the nose to the taste. I splashed some water into it which brought this out more yet calmed the flames. In addition to it being more drinkable, i got hints of baking spice. Sometimes these hotter fellas need some cooling off. Case in point. Had a fun time nonetheless.

Nose is dominated by sweet notes of grass and hay. Some subtle hints of apple, raisin and citrus appear along with a touch of caramel. Initial sip is sweet with flavors of caramel and butterscotch. Flavor evolves into an oaky note that has some bitterness and brings back the grassy and hay note from the nose on the finish. Good amount of heat that lingers for a long finish. Not the typical flavor profiles you expect from a bourbon, but still an interesting and enjoyable drinking experience.

AnttiRG 4.0

A delicate, Uncut Bourbon Whiskey by Frey Ranch Farmers + Distillers in Fallon, Nevada bottled at 60.0% ABV. It has an aromatic birth with notes of grains, wood, dried fruits, nuts, herbs & spices; while a delicate life adds notes of glazed butter cake, frosting, cloves, orange creamsicle, dried stone fruit, caramelized bruleé, with hints of cinnamon & nutmeg; that led to a quick & balanced death with notes of black cherry & a hint of smoke.

Nose: Green apple, char, leather, hint of freshly cut grass Palate: Caramel, herbal, more fresh cut grass, Finish: Medium An interesting exploration into estate whiskey, oily mouthfeel, even a bit of grit on the texture. It’s more on the herbal side hutnhas a hit of sweetness to remind you it’s a bourbon. I enjoyed exploring this pour even though it’s outside my typical profile.

Batch- #9 Proof - 124.3 Nose: cut grass, herbs, cereal, apple and cinnamon spice surrounding the notes. Hints of sugar cookie dough. Fresh wood can be seeked out. Taste: wood, bark, leather and oak. Bits of cookies come out on a second sip. Finish: high viscosity and it coats the mouth fully. Herbs and wet bark linger for a long finish. Chest warming from the first sip.
